10 Things to do in Bali this Month: November 2019

The first half of November sees a jam-packed line-up in Bali. Folks who enjoy a good party will find it at OMNIA and Ulu Cliffhouse this month with international DJs gracing their decks while art lovers  will find food for the soul with one of Bali’s most anticipated art exhibitions, ART • BALI.  Don’t miss the wellness offerings this month either, be it exploring the art of self love or refining one’s mind-body connection in Ubud.

Odyssey MVMT Fest

Engage with a devoted community of like-minded practitioners, educators and conscious companies at the three-day Odyssey MVMT Festival. Highlighting healthy and conscious lifestyles, it kicks off with the Gratitude Gala on the opening night. Across the three days when the sun sets, festival goers can also look forward to an intimate Bali Black Tie fundraiser, workshops, and activities like breathwork & meditation classes, flow yoga, and performances by by electronic and acoustic artists.

ART • BALI 2019

The annual Bali-based art exhibition ART • BALI returns with a refreshed lineup of local and international emerging artists, including Agung Prabowo, Budi Agung Kuswara, Davy Linggar, and Takashi Kuribayashi. Themed Speculative Memories, the three-month long exhibition will be showcasing outstanding artworks, paintings, sculptures, photography, and interactive installations in the tranquility of Nusa Dua.

Café del Mar Presents Stanton Warriors


British DJs and production duo Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley, also known as the, Stanton Warriors have consistently sound-tracked some of the world’s biggest gigs from East London warehouses, Miami boat parties, illegal Detroit raves, and even Burning Man. This November, they arrive at one from Bali’s newest hot spots, Café del Mar. Firing up the Ibiza-born beachfront dancefloor along with them are some of Bali’s finest resident DJs – James Taylor, Scotty Cal, and Fadi.

Original Gyotaku works by Desmond Thain

Head over to one of Uluwatu’s hottest surf hangouts for an evening of good food, good music, and gyotaku art – the traditional Japanese method of printing fish that dates back to the mid-1800s – by Desmond Thain. The Hawaiian-born artist and athlete stepped into the world of professional art upon diving deep into his cultural background, and he chose the gyotaku art form as a means of expressing the intimate relationship between nature and marine mammals. Jakarta based musician Iwanouz will also be performing.

Aboubakar Fofana in Bali: A 6-day Indigo Fermentation Workshop

Embark on a journey to the world of indigo fermentation with calligrapher, textile designer, artist and master dyer Aboubakar Fofana. Assisted by Threads of Life’s local botanists and dyers Komang Sujata, Wayan Sukadana and Made Maduarta, Fofana will be conducting a six-day retreat featuring collaborative workshops that expound on setting up both fermented and the fructose indigo dye-vats, making indigo-dyed sample sets; participants will also be starting and completing their own personal projects.

With a fresh lineup of events this upcoming month, one of OMNIA’s upcoming Sun & Moon events will feature Dutch DJ, producer and platinum selling artist Sam Feldt. With popular singles such as his remake of Robin S’ Show Me Love and Summer On You, Sam Feldt will be leading one of OMNIA’s day-to-night parties with his uplifting summer tunes, making the sunset-lit dance floor the place you wouldn’t want to miss.

The Home Natural Dyer

Bundle dyeing is a method of dyeing and creating designs with foraged leaves, flowers, seed pods, and bark in printing various shapes and colours on fabric and paper. The Kul Kul Farm will be hosting a three-day natural bundle dyeing workshop for folk who’d like to know how to unlock colours of plants that exist around us and practice natural dyeing from home. Participants will learn the foundation and wisdom of natural dyeing, how to identify local plants for dyeing, as well as bring home various dyed pieces and a home dyer’s starter kit.

Celebrates Ulu Cliffhouse’s Anniversary with Soul Clap


Boston DJ duo Soul Clap is making their way to the Island of the Gods for a groundbreaking sunset session in celebration of Ulu Cliffhouse’s second year anniversary. Join Charles Levine (aka Lonely C) and Eli Goldstein (aka Bamboozle) at an epic daytime pool party that will stretch into the night, accompanied by tunes from Soul Clap Records and EFUNK label’s releases. Supporting acts Josh D, Per QX, and Deetone will be sharing the deck too.

The Art of Self Love

In this one-day workshop led by movement artist, holistic practitioner and self-love coach Lola Malaika, participants can practice letting go of habitual self-judgement and sense of resentment, as well as experience moving with pleasure, breathing with joy, being vulnerable and simultaneously invincible. In exploring the meaning of self-love, participants will be introduced to ancient and contemporary techniques that emphasise healing and cathartic potential of movement, touch, and play like Japanese Butoh, Israeli Gaga Movement Language, and Play Therapy.
