With F1 roaring into town this weekend, we thought we’d shake things up a little and share our 5 top F1 parties in our weekly pickings. But if you’re not quite feeling the race buzz, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a (non-F1!) list as well. We’re sure there’s something for you in this bumper edition. Here we go with the stuff unrelated to F1…
Gorillaz Sound System (GSS) DJ Set
Feel Good! DJ Remi Kabaka, voice actor behind Gorillaz band member Russel Hobbs, brings Gorillaz Sound System (GSS) to Singapore for the first time ever. GSS is a state-of-the-art audio-visual show that features all the best Gorillaz tracks, coupled with larger-than-life projections of the virtual band’s famous visuals. Two local artists will also be supporting GSS; you can look forward to enigmatic, masked electronic producer FAUXE bringing his lo-fi beats, as well the funky vibes of inimitable DJ trio Stassh.
This event will take place on Thursday, 17 September 2015, 9.30PM at Zouk. Tickets ($75) can be purchased here.
Road to Ultra Singapore
The folks behind Ultra Music Festival have brought the house down in Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and South America…and it’s about time for Singapore to get in on the action! With headliners Skrillex, Swedish powerhouse Alesso, and EDM sensation Nicky Romero, they’re pulling out all stops for this pitstop. Tickets have been selling really fast, so get them online here before they disappear (no tickets sold at the door)!
Road To Ultra will take place at Marina Bay Sands on the 19th of September. Tickets start from $168, and are available here. This is an 18+ event. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
American Writers Festival 2015
Back for its fifth edition in Singapore, this year’s American Writers Festival showcases several celebrated American writers of different genres. The festival opens on Monday with a reading by Pulitzer Prize winner Adam Johnson, along with an introduction from U.S. Ambassador Kirk Wagar and a Q&A with Adrian Pang. That’s followed up by a range of feature readings, workshops, talks and panel discussions with various writers, all the way till Thursday. Everything’s free, just make sure you register online.
The American Writers Festival is happening at various locations in SMU and Yale-NUS College, from the 14th to 17th of September. Admission is free but attendees must register online. The full schedule of events and links to register can be found here.
Cantik Lah Singapore!
Cantik Lah Singapore! is an event organized under ArteFact, a collective of scientists and artists seeking new ways to communicate conservation science. Through intriguing panel discussions, dialogues with respected conservationists and biologists, and fascinating photography workshops marrying Nature with the visual arts, learn more about environmental issues surrounding Singapore at present and in the years to come. Photographers in particular may be interested in workshops with polaroid emulsion lifts and dialogues about the purpose and place of nature photography.
These events take place at various locations from the 19th to the 27th of September. For the full list of events, and to register, please click here. Panel discussions are free while workshops charge a nominal fee for materials. For further information, visit the ArteFact Facebook page here.
SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ARTS 2015: The Incredible Adventures of Border Crossers
Commissioned for the opening of Singapore In France Festival held in Paris in March 2015, The Incredible Adventures Of Border Crossers returns for a homecoming show. Forged in collaboration with creative talents specialising in design, photography, video and sound, the performance tells the story of real-life border crossers who inhabit the installation – singing, dancing, and invoking pioneer travellers who were captured by the Lee Brothers Studio in Singapore, a unique photo salon, in 1910. This is a performance that is at once installation, karaoke and fashion runway, a show not to be missed.
The Incredible Adventures of Border Crossers is taking place from Thursday, 17 September to Saturday, 19 September at 6.30pm at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. To purchase tickets, please click here.
And now, behold the F1 parties!

There’s also an incredible line-up of musical guests, with Mark Doyleʼs Fierce Angels, LMFAOʼs 8KY 6LU and Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn, aka HODOR of GoT (check out our interview with him here) headlining on different nights! Sky High Pit Stop at 1-Altitude
Things kick off on the 18th with the Altimate Circuit Party, featuring amazing views, non-stop party hits and a chance to win Grandstand passes to the Race! We’re also particularly interested in the 19th’s Pit Stop Cocktail Tour, featuring stations set up by Grey Goose & Martini, Moet Ice Imperial, Hibiki and Red Bull, along with a surprise concept put together by 1-Altitude and the Red Bull team. Grab a cocktail at each ‘pit stop’ and stand to win a prize. Things wind down deliciously on the 20th with a decadent Sunday Brunch ($110 ++, or $148++ with free flow MUMM Champagne) at Stellar.

Kyo’s After Burner
Head down post-race on the 18th and 19th and Feel the ‘afterburn’ at Kyo with an impressive duo of international DJs on the decks this weekend. The sounds of classic house takes hold on Friday with Tim Sweeney, DJ and host of the critically acclaimed Beats In Space radio station, while Saturday brings the tech 4/4 flavours with the legendary French DJ Agoria. Great music, good vibes, and this afterburner won’t burn a hole in your pocket, either.

Kilo Lounge: The F1 Weekend ‘F*ck Yo Couch’ Series
Not to be outdone in the department of F1 weekend excitement, Kilo Lounge has a stellar line-up of music that Rick James would approve of. On the 18th, Alexis and Owen of British electronic music band Hot Chip are taking over the decks for a DJ set we’re really excited for, while the 19th sees dancefloor-ready duo Bodhi getting the crowd pumped up with their blend of old-school house and modern bass. The F1 weekend ends in style with Dutch DJ and club collective CHIPS; be there while Tim Wes, Sean XX and MC Triomphe bring the magic of Rotterdam to Kilo for a night to remember.
These events take place at Kilo Lounge on Sept 18, 19, and 20 from 10pm till late. All events have no guestlist. Do not wear flip-flops! Kilo Lounge has a 21-and-above age limit policy for club events. For more information, check out the Kilo Facebook page here.
Manhattan Bar GPSS Peel Out
If you’re looking for a slightly quieter F1-themed experience, we recommend the Manhattan Bar (one of the World’s 50 Best Bars this year) GPSS Peel Out, a sublime tasting adventure that simulates the on-track action with a combination of gourmet bites and a delicious handcrafted cocktail. Start off with a smoked duck breast with arugula purée and orange confiture before you savour a specially concocted Arnaud cocktail, with smokey notes reminiscent of race-track rubber burning on tarmac. Nearing the finish line, an indulgent dessert of bitter chocolate with raspberry coulis and fresh raspberry mint awaits! The home of the Manhattan Bar, Regent Hotel, also happens to be offering a fantastic F1 Stay Package; if you’d like a weekend getaway, check out the details here!
The Manhattan GPSS Peel Out is available only from September 12 to 21, 2015 at $35. For more information, visit the Manhattan Bar Facebook page here.
