21ST SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL Kun Woo Paik

Paik’s sense of drama, his wit, mastery of nuance, thoughtfully weighted chords and fleet-fingered virtuosity, all are remarkable.” – The Independent

Greatly admired for his passionate and virtuosic playing, South Korean pianist Kun Woo Paik is the winner of the Naumburg award and Gold Medallist at the Busoni International Piano Competition. His international career took off following his first New York appearance, in which he performed complete piano works by Maurice Ravel at the Lincoln Center. Identified throughout his distinguished career as having a very varied repertoire, his complete Prokofiev piano concerti recording received both Diapason d’Or of the year and Nouvelle Académie du disque awards in France.

A master colourist, Paik will coax his bejewelled, singing tone from the instrument to give voice to his all-Schubert programme, including the Op.90 Impromptus and the demanding posthumous DreiKlavierstücke, D. 946, showcasing the composer’s profound sense of tonal palette, narrative, drama and panache, beneath his extraordinarily ravishing melodies.
