Gather your football kakis, dust off your boots and gear up for 24SEVENS – a brand new thrilling seven-a-side international football series, which brings talented amateur players together in seven football-crazy cities to celebrate the beautiful game we love! Live and breathe football for 24 hours at the inaugural 24SEVENS tournament, which kicks off in
Singapore from 15-16 May 2015 at The Cage Sports Park @ Turf City
The focus of 24SEVENS is undoubtedly its thrilling sevens amateur football tournament for the masses, promising fun and unparalleled entertainment in a competitive setting. Reaching out to both the young and old, football enthusiasts can come together with their buddies to enjoy the adrenaline rush of competing against numerous teams throughout the day. There are two categories on offer – the open category, which calls for players aged 18 onwards; and the masters category that reaches out to participants who are 40 years old and above, with an option of including two players aged 35 and above.
With a match restricted to just 18 minutes, players on each team will aim to outplay and outscore their opponents during that limited time frame. With 14 players challenging one another on a smaller pitch, it equates to twice the amount of
participation, action and goals!
The Singapore leg of the worldwide sporting series will see several of the country’s famed ex-national football athletes join in the fun, while doing their bit for 24SEVENS’ adopted charity – The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF).
Taking a leaf out of the successful Indian Premier League auction system, participating teams will have an opportunity to bid for these former Lions through an online platform to be a part of their squad and play alongside these football stars
come event day.
To date, there are five local football legends – Abbas Saad, Malek Awab, Nazri Nasir, Rafi Ali and Shahri Rahim – who will be up for auction, with proceeds going to The Straits Times SPMF. Interested teams can bid for these players to be a part of their squad through the official 24SEVENS [website](http://www.24SEVENSfootball.com). Bids for each former Lions player starts at about SGD500, with increments of SGD70 per bid.
Besides being a football festival for the players, 24SEVENS Singapore is an all encompassing event that reaches out to the supporters as well. With a plethora of lifestyle activities on offer, football fanatics can grab a snack at the pop-up bar, enjoy live music and show off one’s slick free style moves at the football skills corner.
There’s no reason that budding football enthusiasts should miss out on being a part of this upcoming international football series. 24SEVENS caters to youths as well, with registrants able to sign their children up for an exclusive FC Barcelona football clinic for free on 16 May 2015.
24SEVENS is taking place from Friday, 15 May to Saturday 16 May at The Cage Sports Park @ Turf City
