While it does rain a whole lot in Singapore, we can be thankful that it rarely pours the entire day. And when the weather clears up, there’s nothing we want more than sitting outdoors at the bar with cooler temperatures and a breeze rustling through our hair. From a verdant garden in the outskirts of town to modern spaces in the shadows of skyscrapers, we share with you 3 lovely alfresco bars in and out of the city. The icing on the cake? They’re open till late on weekdays too!
The Black Swan
As The Black Swan turns three this year, the good folks unveiled a brand-new alfresco garden patio that seats up to 100 people, and isn’t it gorgeous? Perfect for weary office workers to escape the corporate grind, this lush oasis is decked out in timber benches, clay brick paths, and vine-covered trellises. Enjoy great drinks over indulgent bar bites such as the Chicken Lollipops ($18) and Housemade Pastrami Sandwiches ($16). In spirit of injecting glamour into the CBD, this new space will play host to regular live music performances.
The elegant cocktails at The Black Swan are a must-try, some favourites being the chamomile-infused Whisky Business ($21) and salted caramel vodka-based Powder my Nose ($21). Plus, a happy hour promotion means that you can now enjoy $9 house pours, house wines, and select beers from 5pm to 8pm. And have we mentioned the $2 oyster special?
The Black Swan is located at 19 Cecil St, Singapore 049704, p. +65 6438 3757. Open Mon 11.30am – 11pm, Tue-Thu 11.30am – 12am, Fri 11.30am – 1am, Sat 5pm – 1am.
The Rabbit Hole
For a night of refined tipples, head to Singapore’s only gin garden bar at Dempsey. Surrounded by nothing but greenery, the luscious space is great for romantic dates, special occasions, and even weddings.
Choose from a well-curated selection of 15 affordable gin and tonics, categorised into five flavour profiles: Floral & Elegant, Complex & Unexpected, Simple & Honest, Traditional London Dry, and The New Classics. Think hard-to-find gins that include Blue Coat ($18), The Botanist ($22), Death’s Door ($17), and G’Vine Floraison ($17).
Better still, these are further supplemented by a sophisticated bar snack menu that includes freshly shucked Oysters ($42 for 6), a decadent Charcuterie Board that starts from $16, and classic croque-monsiuers like the Truffle brie toast ($16). Read our full review here.
The Rabbit Hole is located at 39C Harding Rd, Singapore 249541, p. +65 6473 9965. Open Tue-Thu, Sun 6pm – 11.30pm, Fri-Sat 6pm – 12.30am. Closed Mon.
OverEasy Orchard
All-American dining and drinking in the heart of town doesn’t get much better than OverEasy Orchard and its vibrant alfresco section, which opens out to bustling Orchard Road. Think glorious comfort food à la juicy wagyu burgers (The Truffle, $28), signature Beer Can Chicken ($58), New York staple Waffles & Wings ($22) and an expanded Mac & Cheese menu.
Drinks here are Americana bar classics including whisky-based drinks like the Piggyback ($14) – a shot of house-infused bacon bourbon chased by a slice of candied bacon – and sinful milkshakes such as the Berry Bonanza ($13) and maple-syrupy Smokey the Bear ($13). Make sure to come early, because you don’t want to miss out on the awesome 1-for-1 premium pours and draft beers; $8 mojitos, ciders and moscato from 5pm to 8pm.
