5 New Year Eve Dinners to Welcome 2015

When we say hello to December every year, the afterthought is usually the impending year to follow, and of course, what you’re going to be doing for New Year’s Eve. Many of you will already be planning what to get up to this December 31st. Crazy parties, an evening at home with friends, or perhaps an exuberant dinner to bring in the New Year?

Well, with everything going on this December, we thought we’d do the hard work for you and narrow down the top 5 restaurants that we’d recommend getting the evening started before heading out to the big parties.

Just be warned, some of the restaurants below are pretty pricey…

The Black Swan

Serving up the classic European fare that The Black Swan is known for, their New Year’s Eve set dinner features delicious courses like an Amuse-Bouche of marinated octopus, smoked pimento, and arugula, Scallop Carpaccio with Sevruga caviar, micro herbs, and citrus dressing, and Grilled 365 Day US Striploin with glazed winter vegetables, truffle mash, and glace de viande. And if you’re really looking to indulge, have some of their French and US oysters ($36-$54 half dozen) or Giaveri Osietra Imperial Caviar ($84, 15g) before you start dinner proper. Haven’t made countdown plans? Consider heading upstairs to The Powder Roomafter for a glitzy affair with DJ Daryl Chan.

Seasonal Tastes

Ring in the New Year at The Westin Singapore with gastronomical treats at Seasonal Tastes on 31 December. Seafood aficionados will definitely do well here, for there’s an Oyster Bar amply stocked with freshly shucked oysters from Ireland and France and a splendid seafood selection that includes Red Claw Lobsters, Slipper Lobsters, Sri Lanka Crabs, and Half-shell Scallops. With a host of other offerings like Pan-fried Goose Liver with Truffle Honey, Pork Belly Roulade with Apricot, and Roast Whole Salmon with Lemon and Market Vegetables, this is one New Year’s Eve buffet that’ll cater to everyone.

First Seating (6pm-8pm): $138++ per adult, top up $50++ for free flow champagne, beer, wines, soft drinks, coffee and tea, $69++ per child (5-12 years old).

Second Seating (8.30pm – 12.30am): $238++, top up $50++ for free flow champagne, beer, wines, soft drinks, coffee and tea, $119++ per child (5-12 years old).

10 SCOTTS

If you’ve been indulging in traditional European cuisine for most of the festive season, check yourselves into 10 SCOTTS at Grand Hyatt this New Year’s Eve for a truly international buffet. Expect everything from steamed Boston lobster and poached Alaskan crab at the Seafood Bar to Som Tam (Thai papaya salad) and Duck Rillette amongst the smorgasbord of appetizers. Their chefs will also be slicing up Roasted Wagyu Sirloin and Chinese Roasted Duck at the live stations. What’s more, the price of the buffet also scores you free entry to their Technicolour Countdown Party and the Grand Dessert Buffet on the third floor. Pssst, if you book yourself a spot at any of Grand Hyatt’s New Year Eve buffets before 15 December 2014, you get 15% off!

Price (from 7.30pm): $298++ per person for free flowing champagne, red and white wines, soft drinks, and juices, $158++ per child (aged 7 to 17). Includes admission to the New Year’s Eve Countdown Party with free-flowing beverages including champagne and the Grand Dessert Buffet.

Equinox

This sky-high restaurant at Swissôtel The Stamford one of Singapore’s favourite places to go for special occasions because of, you guessed it right, the fireworks. And before those glittery explosions light up the sky in welcoming 2015, you get to tuck into their decadent, epicurean 8-course menu including Chilled Maine Lobster with Leek Terrine and Lobster Bouillon, Duck Consomme with Slow-Cooked Duck Leg and Baby Turnips, as well as the Hand-Dived Scottish Scallop with Cauliflower, Smoked Pancetta and Black Garlic.

Price: $408++ per person, inclusive of a glass of Dom Pérignon

Catalunya

Conclude your year-end festivities at Catalunya with their 7-course degustation New Year’s Eve menu that features the best of Spanish produce at this unique glass-encased dome floating atop the waters of Marina Bay. Expect to taste robust Catalan flavours in the exquisite Carabinero Red Prawn and dishes with premium seasonal ingredients like the Porcini Mushroom Canelón with White Truffle. This might be the priciest dinner on our list, but diners get free entry to their New Year’s Eve rooftop countdown party worth $98. Fireworks also included.

Price: $488++, with complimentary entry to Catalunya Late Nights’ New Year’s Eve party
