5 Things to Do in Singapore This Week: 18 – 24 September 2017

This week’s filled to the brim with exciting events like a great food festival, an unorthodox music night hosted by DOOMPH, the action-packed Asian Fighting Championships, and an exhibition on the Singaporean stories of the Japanese occupation; so we guarantee you’re bound to have a good time if you’re everything from a foodie to a history buff.

Discovering French Wine

One of Singapore’s most exclusive wine clubs, The French Cellar works with Nicolas Rebut, the former Chef Sommelier of 3-Star Michelin Restaurant Le Louis XV, to procure the most exquisite wines from all over France. Thus, vino lovers and Francophiles alike can look forward to savouring and learning about the best wines from small French wineries at this tasting class. Basics of the wine tasting method, the wine production process, and pairing ideas will also be covered.
Discovering French Wine will be happening on 18 September 2017, 7pm – 8.15pm, at Collision 8 at 1 North Bridge Road #08-08 Singapore, 179094. For more information, check out the event page here. Tickets can be purchased here.

The Great Food Festival

As its name suggests, this collaboration between Resorts World Sentosa and international gourmet festival curators Savour is bound to be absolutely epic. The 4-day Great Food Festival will showcase 30 locally and internationally-renowned culinary stars and their gastronomic masterpieces across venues in the integrated resort. Singaporeans will recognise familiar face like Han Li Guang from Labyrinth, Michael Lewis from Tin Hill Social, and Eugenia Ong from Table 7, so you know this festival is truly going to be an unbeatable feast.

The Great Food Festival will be happening on 21 – 24 September 2017, 11am – 10pm, at Resorts World at Sentosa, 8 Sentosa Gateway, Singapore 098269. For more information, check out the official event website here

DOOMPH with Brendan P, JB and Stephen Day

It’s no surprise that the vibrant Kilo Lounge will be hosting this zany disco series. DOOMPH has grown synonymous with lots of drinking, spirited dancing, and an eclectic mix of Disco tunes (think everything from the old to the present day, Organic to Electronic) – so it’s the perfect for those who are looking for a night out that’s as eccentric as it is fun.
DOOMPH with Brendan P, JB and Stephen Day will be happening on 23 September 2017, from 10pm onwards, at Kilo Lounge (TP), 21 Tanjong Pagar Road #01-02/04 Singapore 088444. For more information, check out the event page here.

Singapore’s Inaugural Asian Fighting Championships

We’ve seen interest and a passion for Muay Thai grow in the Lion City across the past couple of years, and that has culminated in our very first Asian Fighting Championships! The AFC aims to unite Muay Thai artistes from all over Asia, so expect to see a wide range of talent from practitioners hailing from Uzbekistan, Japan, and China. Fans of the sport will be thrilled to catch top champion fighters like Seung Bum Woo and Yoo Deok Jae (South Korea), Chao Wai Ian and Kuan Wei Hou (Macau), and Muhammad Ali Yakub (Malaysia) in the flesh.
The Asian Fighting Championship 2017 will be happening on 23 September 2017
from (Fight commences) 7.00pm to 11.30pm, at Marina Bay Sands Expo, Hall A, Level 1, 1 Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018971. For more information, check out the official event page here.

For this new exhibition, National Museum Singapore has collaborated with over 10 institutions across the Pacific to bring together over 130 artifacts, many of which have never been seen in Southeast Asia before, to help explain international and regional significances of the Fall of Singapore. Visitors will get to learn more about and empathise with the lesser-known, but equally human, stories of the war too, with the partnership between the Student Archivist Project and Pioneer Generation Office allowing for interviews with war survivors to presented in the exhibition.
Witness to War: Remembering 1942 will be happening from 23 September 2017 to 25 March 2018, daily, at National Museum of Singapore, 93 Stamford Road, Singapore 178897. For more information, check out the official exhibition page here.

When not travelling around Singapore searching for the best iced coffee, Stephanie can commonly be found checking out museums, waiting in long queues for bubble tea, and taking her two dogs out on walks.
