Top 5 things to do in Singapore this week: 15th -21st December 2014

Ho Ho Ho, with the festive season coming in thick and fast, our events guide has taken on a Christmas theme! Here’s our pick of the top 5 things to do in Singapore this week.

Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’

After having gone through intense scientific testing, and spending the best part of four decades locked in a Swiss bank vault, the earlier version of the iconic ‘Mona Lisa’ has made the journey to Singapore. Embark on an adventure of discovery, whilst finding out the history, science and mathematics behind Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece. You don’t even need to fly 6000 miles to the Louvre in France – and squeeze with loads of other tourists – to marvel at the painting, making this a once in a life time opportunity.

Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Earlier Mona Lisa’ is being held at ArtScience Museum from 16 December to 11 February 2015 at 11am to 10pm. For more information and tickets, please visit SISTIC’s website here.

Christmas Wonderland

With our humid tropical weather, Singapore is extremely far from the definition of ‘Winter Wonderland’. We do, however, have our very own Christmas Wonderland: a shopping paradise nestled in the serene surroundings of Gardens by the Bay. Dazzling light sculptures and a European styled market will keep your festive spirit burning bright, as the joy of Christmas takes hold. Look forward to 19 delightful wooden huts selling specialty foods and drinks, as well as handmade crafts that would make great gifts for your loved ones.

Christmas Wonderland is happening now till 6 January 2015 at Gardens By The Bay from 9am to 10pm. Admission charges to the Cooled Conservatories apply. For more information, please visit their website here

The Independent Market

Thinking of what to get that hipster friend for Christmas? The Independent Market is here to solve your problem. With 7 stalls selling items ranging from books to bags, there’s something for everyone. What makes this market even more impressive is the homegrown factor, as all products are designed locally. And if gift wrapping is not your strongest suit, the Independent Market provides a complimentary gift-wrapping service. Oh yeah…

The Independent Market is held at Vivocity, Level 1, from 16-24 December at 10am to 10pm. For more information, please visit their Facebook Page here

Our Time

Growing old is a fact of life…and a scary thought for most people. But no matter how old you are now, we’re pretty sure your twenties is/was a life-defining period of time in your life, with the highs and lows that mould us, for better or worse. And that is what ‘Our Time’ is all about – the musical explores what it’s like to be in your twenties. Relatable, and laden with sincerity, this anthology will touch your heart immensely.

Our Time will run at Drama Centre Black Box, Level 5, National Library Building from 17-21 December at 8pm. For ticketing details, please click here

A Jazzy Christmas

A long-time fixture of Esplanade’s year end celebrations, ‘A Jazzy Christmas’ is back for its 10th edition, featuring Singapore’s King of Swing, Jeremy Monteiro. Classic Christmas carols like ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’, will reverberate around the cultured grounds of our well-loved arts hub. So swing your way to good tidings of joy this yuletide season while the holiday reefs are still up at the jazz extravaganza of the year!

A Jazzy Christmas is happening at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 20 December at 7.30pm. For ticketing details, please visit SISTIC’s website here
