5 Things To Do This Week: 17th-23rd August 2015

August’s already been tremendously exciting but we’re nowhere near done. Read on for 5 awesome gigs, parties, and foodie things to check out this week!

Urban Sessions #1 feat. Shigga Shay

A new, monthly music series featuring homegrown acts by the people at JUICE, Invasion Singapore, and Refuge, Urban Sessions is one of the few places you’ll be able to listen to exclusive, new material from each local musician. And for their debut, Urban Sessions is hosting Shigga Shay’s album release party! Affectionately known as Lion City Kia,  Shigga Shay is loud and proud about Singapore life and identity in his swaggering, clever, Singlish-laden music. We hear they’re serving complimentary drinks from 8-9pm at the party too!

Urban Sessions #1 will take place at Refuge on 19 Aug, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Admission requires an invite, so RSVP here before midnight, 18 Aug.

Light and Brilliance Exhibition

The given name of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, 李光耀, means ‘light and brightness’ and ‘bringing great glory to one’s ancestors’. Bearing this in mind, Artist Koon Beng Chua, known as Y/X, created the exhibition to pay tribute to Mr. Lee, as well as to appreciate and reflect upon Lee’s dedication to Singapore. Head on down to explore the artist’s perspective on the life and vision of an extraordinary man.

‘光宗耀祖’ (Light and Brilliance) Exhibition is open to members of the public from Tuesday, 18 August 2015 till Thursday, 27 August 2015, 11am to 9.30pm daily, at Raffles City Shopping Centre, Level 3 Atrium. Admission is complimentary.
