Hello October!
The haze is still around, but don’t let it get you down. Here’s what to check out in Singapore this week:
Al Murray: One Man, One Guvnor
Expect a night of hilarity, ’cause English comedian Al Murray is back in Singapore with his latest show! This successful comic will be in character with his alter ego, The Pub Landlord, a mock xenophobic, stereotypical, right-wing British patriot that dislikes anything un-British.
Al Murray will be performing 7 October 2015, 8pm, at the University Cultural Centre Hall at National University of Singapore. For more information and tickets, see SISTIC.
Living Yangtze
A multimedia project of 96 photographs and seven short documentary shorts by distinguished film director Eric Valli, Living Yangtze tells the stories of communities that depend on the great Yangtze River. Commissioned by Swarovski, expect magnificent landscapes and to empathize with the need to have clean, sustainable water sources.
Living Yangtze runs 10-27 October 2015, 10am – 7pm daily, at the ArtScience Museum. For more information and tickets, see here.
Chinglish
Written by David Henry Hwang and directed by Tracie Pang, Chinglish is the first bilingual play in Pangdemonium’s history. Poking fun at the relationships between the West and China, this comedy of errors features Daniel Jenkins as our hapless anti-hero that travels to China to seal a lucrative deal. In the process, he encounters a beatutiful femme fatale (Oon Shu An), a politician (Adrian Pang), and bumbling interpreters including the likes of Guo Liang (remember him from Unlucky Plaza?).
Chinglish is running from Friday, 9 October 2015 to Sunday, 25 October 2015 at the Drama Centre Theatre. For more information and tickets, see SISTIC.
Mabuk Market
Touted as a boozy flea art market, Mabuk Market is your cheap(er) alternative to a fun day out this weekend. Think alcoholic drinks starting from $5 a pop and food by vendors like Park Bench Deli, The Cajun Kings, and Neh Neh Pop. Art magazine kult has curated art-centric carnival game stalls while DJs Bobby Luo and Frederick Yao will helm the decks. Don’t worry about the haze; everything is happening in an air-conditioned tent.
Mabuk Market is happening 11 October 2015, 11am – 9pm, at Marina at Keppel Bay. Admission is free. Shuttle buses available at Vivo City 11am – 4pm. For more information, see their Facebook page here.
Halloween Horror Nights 5
From aliens to cannibals, MRT haunters to flesh-eating zombies, Universal Studio Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights is back with four haunted houses and three scare zones this year. There’s no better way to get all spooked up for scary season so head on over, since selected rides will be open as well. Tip: the HHN Express Pass, which allows you to skip the queue, is worth the splurge for a better experience.
Halloween Horror Nights runs every weekend till 31 October 2015. For more information and tickets, see here.
