7 KICKstart BREWiches: Brewing up a storm

Don’t you love it when you were supposed to go somewhere, stumble across something somewhere else and that place turns out to be even better than the place you meant to go? That’s exactly what we felt when we happened upon 7 KICKstart BREWiches.

Unbeknown to us, these guys are on a single-minded mission to “revive this coffee Renaissance bringing together people from all walks-of-life under the coffee Friendship Banner. To chase down the perfect-cuppa-coffee at the start of each day”. Oh yeah! And quite frankly anything which implies you need to have a brew a day, seven days a week in its name…well…we are most certainly down with that!

It’s true, 7 KICKstart BREWiches is a great place for coffee, and a perfect for chilling out with friends thanks to it’s unique feel. BUT it’s also a top spot for tasty cheap eats. Hang on a minute – that’s three of our favourite things!

The first time we stumbled across this place, it was the Blue Forestcino ($5.70) that won our hearts – a lush and decadent but also rather kick ass black forest coffee made with house-roasted beans, served in a cute measuring jug.

But seeing as our first visit was rather fleeting, we just had to come back and delve deeper. And so we discovered that 7 KICKstart BREWiches is also a place for delicious, ridiculously reasonably priced soul food.

But of course we were hankering after some more of that good stuff Blue Forestcino – this time in ice form and it just seems to get better and better.

I was in the mood for some Chili Beef with Salad ($8.70). Now don’t be fooled this may look like a little portion but somehow it actually goes a lot further despite appearances. And also this is no ordinary chili beef, more like a Thai style chili beef because as well as the usual, it’s made with lemongrass, ginger and I think I detected a hint of cinnamon. Now this aromatic chili beef was finished off with a sprinkling of sunflower seeds AND a dash of wonderful beetroot and orange mayonnaise. So, so tasty I just couldn’t believe it was only $8.70!

I’m not usually that into pizza, pizzettes etc, but honestly the pizzettes here are like one wholesome bundle of squidy goodness. We went for the Spinach, Shrooms, Tomatoes and Cheese ($8.70) which felt like probably the most healthy pizza-type dish I’d ever had, stacked with loads of spinach, tomatoes, some pumpkin –  it was like you could eat this and be guilt free!

But guilt free soon went out the window as we ordered the HUMUNGOUS

Hungry Uni Students Stackie Stack ($15.90). Now obviously from the picture below you can see that this is on hell of a beast, to such an extent is required a knife through the middle of it to keep it all together! Not to be messed with by the faint hearted. It’s basically the height of a hand span and consists of a triple stack of beef patty, CLT (that’s chicken) and BLT. Wowzers! But of course if anyone can finish this off, my dining parter The City Nomad can. His face promptly glazed over into food coma heaven on devouring this monster.

Aside from all that, the good people at 7 KICKstart BREWiches have a heart of gold and a social conscience as at time of writing they were about to start selling sugar cookies from the BakeryHearts initiative, a collective of women baking out of hardship to a better life, with all dollars from sales of the cookies going directly to the cause.

It has to be said that we’re rather fond of this spot. And having been there twice in a fortnight, the fondness is certainly growing and we’re already starting to feel part of the family. So if you’re looking for a new central coffee hangout that will embrace you with open arms or happen to be around the arts district then be sure to make yourself acquainted with 7 KICKstart BREWiches – for it could be the start of a beautiful friendship!
