8 restaurants to celebrate Chinese New Year at

Lunar New Year is back, with Singapore’s restaurants serving up tantalizing menus crafted to bring you abundance, health, prosperity and all other good things for the year of the Horse. We pick out eight lucky restaurants to indulge in some festive family feasting:

1. Peony Jade @ Keppel Club

Peony Jade is primed to welcome the year of the horse with an exclusive mouthwatering mix of eight festive dines – The ‘Eight Beauties of Blossoming Spring’. Featuring impressive creations like Horse-Shaped Yu Sheng ($198.99 serving up to 12), Golden Suckling Pig Stuffed with Glutinous Rice ($8.88/piece or $238.88/whole serving up to 12), Prosperity Truffle Roasted Chicken ($38.88/half or $68.88/whole serving 6) and Prosperity Lychee Roasted Mandarin Duck ($48.88/half or $78.88/whole serving up to 8).

2. Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House

Taking centre stage at Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House this Chinese New Year are set menus each representing Happiness, Fortune, Longevity and Prosperity (priced at $88 per person for a minimum of 4 persons up to $288 for a minimum of 10 people). Expect dishes like Lobster Truffle ‘Wonton’ with Superlative Consomme, Foie Gras and Wagyu Beef ‘Sang Choy Bow’ and Wok Fried Kagoshima Wagyu Beef Tenderloin with Peppercorn.

3. Ming Jiang

Prosperity savouries, a selection of Yu Sheng and dine-in à la carte and set menus will be available at Min Jiang Goodwood Park Hotel and at One-North featuring dishes like Snapper with Grilled Puffer Fish ‘Yu Sheng’ (part of set, only at Min Jiang), Prosperity ‘Fa Cai’ 8 Treasures Duck ($178 for 8 – 10 persons) and Claypot Reunion Rice ($68 for 4 – 6  persons/$108 8-10 persons). Set menus for festive feasting featuring a lavish selection of delicacies at both restaurants are also available (priced at $98 and $118 per person, menu for minimum two persons and range from $788 to $1688 per table of ten persons).

4. Fung Ding Hung

Start the year on a healthy note with Fung Ding Hung’s nutritious gourmet cuisine. Even the Yu Sheng here gets a healthy slant made with Roselle Flower Sauce and Red Coral Algaem both ingredients known for their pro-health benefits. Choose from the Golden Year Set at $78++ per person or the Blessing and Longevity Set at $98 per person including dishes like Mini Herbal Treasure Pot with Deep Fried Bun, Steamed Soon Hock Stuffed with Silver Fish and Claypot Live Prawn in Herbal Chinese Wine where each dish is created to get your health off to a galloping start.

5. Majestic Restaurant @ Majestic Hotel

Award-winning Chef Yong Bing Ngen’s will be offering up a range of nine menus named after lucky Chinese quotes this Lunar New Year including a refreshing six-course vegetarian menu ($88 per person), Auspicious ($98 per person, minimum 2 persons), Blissful ($168++ per person, minimum 2 persons, right the way through to Eternity ($888 for minimum 10 persons) featuring dishes like Slow-Cooked South African Abalone with Homemade Beancurd, Stewed Boston Lobster Noodles and the drool-worthy sounding Majestic Deluxe Treasures Claypot stuffed with all manner of seafood!

6. Si Chuan Dou Ha @ UOB Plaza

Regular readers know that we’re truffle crazy at City Nomads, and so when we found out Si Chuan Dou Ha was ushering in the Lunar new year with a Black Truffle Yusheng with Fresh Turbot ($98 small for 4-6 persons /$158 large for 8-10 persons) it just had to be on our list of places to go. Other dishes to look out for include Si Chuan Dou Hua’s Pen Cai ($268 small/$438 large) which comes brimming with treasures of abalone, scallops, prawns and fish maw and Braised Pork Knuckle with Red Dates, Water Chestnuts and Chinese Wine ($48).

7. CÉ LA VI

This may seem a surprising entry on this list but the spice of life is variety! For those looking for a more unique Asian dining experience, CÉ LA VI Restaurant is welcoming the Year of the Horse with a four course menu at $168 per person featuring typical Chinese dishes with a hint of signature Japanese influence. Expect dishes like fresh Oyster with Pomelo Jelly and Fuji Apple Sorbet, Braised Duck Tongue in Rice Wine, Steamed Whole Fish with Ginger, Scallions, Sesame and Soy plus Yusheng made with an assortment of fresh sashimi.

8. Violet Oon’s Kitchen

If you’d like to see in the New Year in a more Peranakan style, Violet Oon’s Kitchen will be celebrating the warm memories of New Year’s past with regional Chinese heritage festive dishes along with the traditional Nyonya favorites. Look out for lo hei with a tropical twist in the Nyonya Yu Sheng ($48) with kaffir lime leaves and pink ginger flowers, Babi Chin with Sambal Nanas ($18), traditional pork stew generously spiced with coriander powder plus Hakka Abacus Beads ($22 – limited orders), the well-loved Hakka CNY dish of yam gnocchi bathed in rich gravy of minced pork, dried prawns and julienne of fried dried squid.
