7 Epic Seafood Dishes in Singapore to end off the SEA Games

Food background with seafood, selective focus

As much as we love our poultry and other types of protein, Singaporeans do have a soft spot for seafood. We’re willing to pay a premium for it, and we love it when creative minds in the kitchen come up with novel seafood dishes that more than tickle our tastebuds.

So for all you adventurous eaters out there, here are 9 seafood specials with a twist to get you started:

Lobster Porridge – Palm Beach Seafood

This is definitely comfort food, luxe. Palm Beach Seafood’s Teochew style porridge is prepared with fresh Australian or Boston Lobster, and cooked with sesame oil and Chinese wine. If this doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart (and your belly), nothing else will.

Palm Beach Seafood is located at 1 Fullerton Rd, #01-09 One Fullerton, 049213. Opening hours: Open Daily: 12pm to 2.30pm,  5.30pm to 11pm. Tel: +65 63368118

‘Kopi’ Crab – Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant

For those tired of our famed Chilli Crabs, try ‘Kopi’ Crabs the next time you’re craving for the crustacean. Layered with a sauce that consists of coffee beans, coffee liqueur, apple jam, and fruit juice, this creation by Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant would be a good choice for those that like a dash of sweet in their savoury.

Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant is located at 18 Marina Gardens Drive #01-10, Flower Dome, Gardens By The Bay, 018593. Opening Hours: Open Daily: 11.30am to 3pm, 5.45pm to 9pm. Tel: +65 6604 6604

Tom Yum Pasta – 49 Seats

Fusing two of our favourite cuisines, 49 Seats’ Thai-Italian Tom Yum Pasta is a popular dish with many Singaporeans. Their version edition sees prawns, clams, and spaghetti that is coated with a blend of cream sauce, tom yum spices, and chilli padi. Packing the right amount of heat, this satisfying dish had us slurping till the last strand.

49 Seats is located at 49 Kreta Ayer Rd, 089007. Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday: 6pm to 2am, Friday & Saturday: 6pm to 4.30am. Closed on Sundays. Tel: +65 62254332

Tiger Sea Mantis with Golden Garlic – Long Beach Seafood

It may look pretty intimidating with its giant razor sharp claws, but truth be told, the Tiger Sea Mantis is a decent alternative to prawns or crabs. Long Beach Seafood’s version has the crustacean layered with a delicious sauce of chopped garlic.

Long Beach Seafood is located at 1202 East Coast Parkway, East Coast Seafood Centre, #01-04, 449881. Opening Hours: Open Daily: 11am to 3pm, 5pm to 11pm. Saturdays, Sundays, and PH: Open till midnight. Tel: +65 64458833

Fuzhou UFO (Oyster Cake) – Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake

Resembling an alien spaceship, a mixture of minced pork, oysters, peanuts, and batter makes up the cheekily-named Fuzhou UFO. You know this stall at Maxwell Food Centre is doing something right when the likes of American chef, Anthony Bourdain, counts himself amongst its fans.

Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake is located at 1 Kadayanallur St, Maxwell Road Food Centre, #01-05, Singapore 069184. Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday: 9am to 7pm. Closed on Sundays. Tel: +65 93441296.

Eel Skin Crisps –  Wo Peng

Crispy fish skin have found its way into the menus of restaurants and bars; now meet it’s (slimier sounding) cousin – Eel Skin Crisps. The dish is in reality a popular appetiser at many Chinese eateries or zi char (Chinese home-style cooking) stalls. Served with a soy-based dip, these crispy delights are truly a joy to munch on. Perfect with a cold glass of beer we say!

Wo Peng is located at 1 Maju Avenue, MyVillage, #02-01, Singapore 556679. Opening Hours: Open Daily: 11am to 2.45pm, 6pm to 10.30pm. Tel: +65 66347666

Labyrinth Chilli Crab – Restaurant Labyrinth

If you’re wondering what’s so strange about chilli crab, hold your horses. Instead of the typical Sri Lankan mud crab, Restaurant Labyrinth’s rendition of the classic Singaporean dish features a Tempura Soft Shell Crab topped with a serving of chilli crab flavoured ice cream and fluffy bits of mantou crumbs.

Restaurant Labyrinth is located at 5 Neil Rd, Singapore 088806. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday. Lunch: 12pm to 2pm (Tuesday to Friday), Dinner: 6.30pm to 10.30pm (Tuesday to Sunday). Tel: +65 6223 4098
