A Viking Coffee Break (Closed)

Wandering around the Arab Quarter is usually hot and thirsty work, so it’s good to have a go-to place to seek refuge from the sun – where you can relax and shake that sweat off. One place which I can count on when I need to take some time out in Kampong Glam is Viking Coffee.

Opened not all that long ago, the reason I love this place is its easy going vibe and its higgledy piggledy interior….

which combines mismatched furniture, graffiti on the walls with some viking/tribal references throughout….

But the really great thing about Viking is that somehow it makes you feel right at home so much so that you can just plop yourself in a corner (I love slouching into the sofa area), tap into the free Wifi and soak in sounds of sunny Jamaican raggae that will usually be your soundtrack to the chilling.

The folk at Viking offer up a locally roasted house blend of PNG, Ethiopian and Brazilian beans. Their

Long black (from $4.80) packs quite a punch…

so for those who are not such hard-core caffeine junkies, I would definitely recommend their Iblend (or ice blend) because their

Blackforest (from $6.00) is darn good and is basically like slurping on a liquidised and iced-up blackforest gateaux – yum!

Another great thirst-quencher for a hot day in the Arab Quarter is their Iced Earl Grey Lime (from $4) which is refreshing enough to revitalise even the most hot and sweaty of us beings!

Continuing on the raggae tip these guys also hold a Reggae night on Mondays featuring three piece acoustic band EAZY serving up laid back, sun-drenched vibes to beat the boring beginning of the week blues. Coffee, raggae and general chilled vibes equals a nice little refuge for a Nomad in need of some refuge on a hot day in the Arab Quarter. Need to take cover? Then seek our Viking.
