10 Questions with Kristian Beyer of Âme

Âme (pronounced “AHM”) is a German duo consisting of Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann. The partnership was formed in their hometown of Karlsruhe where Wiedemann first crossed paths with Beyer in 2001 at the latter’s record shop, Plattentasche. Bonding over Chicago house, Detroit techno and everything else, the pair joined forces in 2003 to produce seminal deep house platters for Sonar Kollektiv.

As core members of the Innervisions family, the duo are deeply involved in the group’s operations. The imprint is renowned for exacting quality control, releasing only five or six titles a year encased in lavish artwork, many of which are widely tipped.

We’re lucky to have Âme return to Singapore again for Escape 56 – a collaboration between BLACKOUT and Jägermeister and organized by Singapore DJ, Zig Zach – on 4 November 2016 at The Henderson Project with support from Singapore DJs, Mr Has and Maurice Simon. Launched at Aliwal Arts Centre last month with some of Singapore’s notable House & Techno DJs such as DJ KFC, Brendon PMaurice Simon, Haan and Debbie Chia (from Lily’s Rose), Escape 56 was created as an escape away from the usual party venues, to produce memorable pop up parties in cool and interesting venues around Singapore.

While we’re still a month away from the party, we’re glad to chat up with Kristian Beyer of Âme on all things personal and random.

Describe your surroundings right now.

Sitting on my couch at home listening to a new Terry Riley CD together with his son.

What is the hardest thing you have learned since becoming a full-time artist?

Making final decisions that need to be made even if sometimes you are not 100 percent right.

Do you have any pre/post shows rituals?

Not at all!

Who or what do you miss most when you are on the road?

My home, family and friends.

How has your party ethic changed over the years?

I’m still enjoying it a lot, as I also have the pleasure of being surrounded by nice people most of the time!

Is getting out from behind the booth and dancing on the floor still something you consider essential for the growth of DJs?

I would definitely say so…

If your music was an animal, what would it be?

It would be an animal which can change his colours anytime it wants.

What is next in store for Âme?

We are working on our first artist album, after all this years.

How do you entertain yourself when touring?

I read a lot as I normally don’t have the time to do that.

Are you excited to be back in Singapore again?

Yes, also because my brother is currently living in Singapore 🙂

**Tickets are already on sale via WAAVE app. First release at SG$35 (includes one free Jagermeister miniature bottle)**
