Art After Dark returns to Gillman Barracks for the precinct’s third anniversary celebrations! There will be precinct-wide special programmes and festivities as Gillman Barracks turns three.
ART HIGHLIGHTS
For this anniversary edition of Art After Dark, expect blockbuster exhibitions by the galleries, including several featuring local artists. There will also be talks by curators and artists at Sundaram Tagore Gallery and Michael Janssen Gallery. Other highlights for the night include the unveiling of a new public sculpture under Platform Projects’ Lohia Mentorship Series, produced by local artist Sookoon Ang under the mentorship of international artist Jitish Kallat. NTU CCA Singapore’s Residencies: OPEN series invites visitors to explore the studios and experience the work of its Artists-in-Residence. This edition presents artists Amanda Heng, Li Ran, Yan Jun and anGie Seah who focus on performance in their artistic practice.
NEW TENANTS ART OUTREACH & PLAYEUM
Gillman Barracks’ two newest tenants – local visual art organisations Art Outreach and Playeum – will run special programmes to celebrate their openings. Art Outreach will launch its inaugural interactive exhibition An Eye For Colour and host audience engagement activities; while Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity will offer free entry for parents and children to its The Art of Speed exhibition from 4 to 8pm.
LIVE MUSIC ACTS, F&B POP-UPS & A RETAIL MARKET
In collaboration with Gillman Barracks, Rdio – a global digital streaming service – will present local jazz and soul funk band The Steve Mcqueens and the precinct’s 3rd Anniversary playlist. There will also be a bumper number of outdoor F&B pop-ups; an Army Kinema Market showcasing local designers and retailers including Supermama and Basheer Graphic Books; visitor engagement activities and much more. Red Baron café and bar will also host SoukOut, which features Middle Eastern street food and bazaar, as well as an after party with DJ collective Darker Than Wax spinning till late.
ALL WEEKEND PROGRAMMES
For visitors who prefer a daytime outing to the Barracks, the third anniversary celebrations continue throughout the weekend. On 26 September, NTU CCA Singapore presents an International Symposium, On The Occasion of Allan Sekula: Fish Story, To Be Continued which brings art professionals who will share their insights working with the artist whose works present an investigation of the global maritime industry. Mizuma Gallery and Yeo Workshop will also host more artist talks. In addition, the Art & History Tours and History & Heritage Tours guided by the Friends of The Museums will run on both 26 and 27 September.
