Yep, it’s that time of the year already. Thankfully, there hasn’t been anything too outrageous for mooncake festival this year (that actually came to fruition anyway). Here we go – in no particular order – this is our guide to where to find the best variations of baked mooncakes and snowskin mooncakes in Singapore.
Jade Restaurant, Fullerton Hotel
It’s all about nostalgic flavours at the Jade Restaurant this Mid Autumn Festival. On top of their fine White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk Baked ($60 for 4 pieces), new flavour Green Bean with Sweet Potato Snowskin ($58 for 4 pieces) leaves us feeling content with bold sweet potato flavours and subtle green bean notes. For those with a sweet tooth, we recommend their signature Pandan with Gula Melaka Snowskin ($58 for 4 pieces), which just shows how wonderful this locally-inspired combination can be!
Discounts: Up to 20% till 27 September for selected credit cards. 25% off 4-piece mooncake box (minimum of 3 boxes) for till 27 September for Citibank, excludingThe Fullerton Baked Treasures, The Fullerton Golden Custard Mini Mooncake, and The Fullerton 15 Treasures Premium Gift Set.

Szechuan Court, Fairmont Hotel
The folks at Szechuan Court have got two amazing new flavours this year: the refreshing Yuzu Passion Snowskin Minis ($62 for 8 pieces) – think yuzu infused white chocolate in a white chocolate praline – as well as the nutty and wholesome Autumn Treasures Baked Mooncake ($67 for 4 pieces, indulge in grain goodness with sunflower seeds, melon seeds, white sesame, almonds, and walnut). We’re glad they brought back some of their best sellers from previous years, like the moreish Rum & Raisin Chocolate Truffle Snowskin Minis ($63 for 8 pieces).

Grand Hyatt Singapore
Grand Hyatt‘s snowskin offerings definitely hit the sweet spot while embracing a hint of experimentalism. With the fragrant green tea skin delicately complementing, rather than overshadowing, the subtle sake centre, the Green Tea Sake Truffle Snowskin Mini ($69 for 8 pieces) was a unanimous crowd pleaser for Team City Nomads. We also enjoyed the daring Black Sesame, Buddha’s Hand Truffle Snowskin Mini ($69 for 8 pieces) – expect citrusy Buddha’s Hand enveloped in rich lotus paste and the Buddha’s Hand-infused truffle heart providing a tart edge to the sweet treat.
Discounts: 20% early bird till 9 September with selected credit cards and 25% for Damai and Club at the Hyatt members. 15% discount with selected credit cards till 27 September and 20% for Damai and Club at the Hyatt members.

Millennium Mooncakes
Millennium Hotels & Resorts’ award-winning Hua Ting Restaurant and Chef Lap Fai are known for their traditional baked mooncakes with lotus paste and macadamia nuts. Enjoy the combination of buttery macadamia nuts, smooth lotus paste, and savoury salted egg yolk in the Lotus Paste Single Yolk with Macadamia Nuts ($68 for 4 pieces). Those hankering after snowskin mooncakes should try their Mini Yam Snow Skin Lotus Paste with Champagne ($68 for 8 pieces) and the special SG50 Mini Snow Skin Red & White Twist ($68 for 8 pieces).

Summer Pavillion, The Ritz Carlton Millenia
Summer Pavillion‘s Chef Cheung Siu Kong goes boozy with martinis and mooncakes this time around. The Assorted Mini Snowskin Martini Mooncakes ($64 for 8 pieces) features their signature Lycheetini (still our favourite of the lot!) as well as newcomes Appletini, Berrytini, and Coffeetini. And if we do say so, these go superbly with champagne. If you love baked mooncakes without salted egg yolks, try their Mini White Lotus Seed with Black Sesame ($60 for 8 pieces), which features smooth, fragrant black sesame in the centre.

Shang Palace, Shangri La Hotel
Instead of snowskin mooncakes, Shang Palace‘s Chef Steven Ng has collaborated with Pasty Chef Hervé Potus to produce the new Chocolate Trilogy ($116 for 6 pieces), which features dark chocolate cake with candied orange encased in a dark chocolate shell, carrot cake with mixed nuts with a milk chocolate shell, and a white chocolate shell with green tea and coconut cake. As for baked mooncakes, their innovative Mini Baked Salted Kumquat with Egg Yolk ($78 for 8 pieces) grew on me too.

Summer Palace, Regent Hotel
Mooncakes and tea have always gone together like baths and bubbles. This year, Summer Palace has a winning combination in the floral fragrance of Darjeeling tea and jasmine with the zest of lemon paste in the Regent Blend Tea with Lemon Paste Snowskin ($60 for 8 pieces). Those who prefer the savoury would surely be satisfied with the traditional baked Parma Ham and Pork Floss with Assorted Nuts ($66 for 4 pieces), where the richness and aroma of the cured ham complements the overall crunchiness of the mooncake.
Discounts: 15% for Amex, ANZ, Bank of China, CIMB, Citibank, DBS, Diners Club, HSBC, JCB, Maybank, OCBC, POSB, Standard Chartered, and UOB credit cards.
Available till 27 September 2015. Please call +65 6725 3239 or email foodbeverage.rsn@fourseasons.com for orders.
Goodwood Park Hotel
Nationally famous for their durian offerings, it comes as no surprise to see that durian is back on the menu with the Black Thorn Durian Snowskin ($88 for 4 pieces), as well as their new Tropical Royals ($45 for 2 pieces). There are, however, some naughty twists this year that we rather liked. Their new Pineapple, Lemongrass, and Dark Cherry ($54 for 4 pieces) snowskin is particularly impressive with an almost mousse-like texture on the inside, which is flavoured gently with lemongrass and pineapple puree, with a punch of the macerated dark cherry.
Discounts: 15% for Citibank, DBS, POSB, and UOB credit and debit cards for regular mooncakes and 10% for limited edition mooncakes. Same applies for Gourmet Cardmembers.

Man Fu Yuan, InterContinental Singapore
Whether you’re a baked or snowskin sort of person, Man Fu Yuan knows how to please. For the latter, we love the indulgent Earl Grey and Baileys Truffle and insanely fragrant Japanese Matcha Snowskin in the Snowskin Tea Mooncake Collection ($66 for 4 pieces). The Baked Maple-Glazed Shanghai Mooncake with Single Yolk ($64 for 4 pieces) yielded a light and buttery short crust pastry – a total treat when eaten together with the simple egg yolk and white lotus paste combo. Oh, and InterContinental Singapore also scores points for the prettiest packaging this year!
Discounts: 30% early bird till 30 August, 20% till 27 September. Applies to all 4-piece mooncake boxes except their 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition.
Available online till 23 September 2015. Download order form here, call +65 6820 8519, or email sinhb-festive@ihg.com.
Raffles Hotel
Any mooncake list would be incomplete without mentioning Raffles Hotel‘s signature Champagne Truffle and Ganache Snowskin mooncakes ($72 for 8 pieces). Another snowskin flavour we enjoyed was the Dark Chocolate Crunch Pearl ($70 for 8 pieces), which went down refreshingly light and tasting like after dinner mints. To impress the in laws, a box of Mother of Pearl with Single Yolk and White Lotus Paste ($72 for 8 pieces) will have you in their good books with the extra dose of calcium they receive from the mother of pearl powder in their mooncakes.
Discounts: 20% for online orders till 20 September.
