While fashion seems to be increasing in priority and relevance in the mindset of Singaporean women (hurrah!), there is still a fairly substantial gap between the high street ….think Topshop, Forever 21….and the top, top-end brands. Whilst more established fashion markets have a thriving middle ground where shoppers benefit from the aspirational luxury influence but with more palatable prices (think Raoul, Whistles, Reiss, Cos, and the like), Singapore seems to be just cottoning on to the fact that grown-up women, who have slightly more generous shopping budgets and a more discerning taste, still want trend-led fashion, but just done much much better; because I don’t know about you, but although I do it from time to time, walking in to Forever 21 as an aged 30-something just makes me feel a bit sheepish!
Now, I say this not as a criticism because inevitably the large international brands will get their foothold in the Singapore scene but what it does mean is, in the interim, there is a pocket of opportunity…an empty space and a hopeful market of women who can’t afford Chloe sob but don’t want to get caught out wearing the same outfit as their 14 year old cousin. Enter Inverted Edge.
Inverted Edge, a relatively new addition to the Singapore fashion scene was established mid last year and has so far distinguished itself from the rest, by offering women a unique luxury sense of style from niche independent brands, at a mid-range price level. With quirky labels and curated collections of ready-to-wear designs and exclusive limited editions from Asia-Pacific’s independent fashion designers, Inverted Edge represents the cool girl who wants to look edgy, bold and ‘on-trend’, but with a tangible air of quality and chic.
Indeed a strong part of Inverted Edge’s appeal is that they embrace emerging fashion talent which gives their collection not only a striking individuality but also an air of exclusivity…no mass production or instantly recognisable patterns LV LV LV! exist here (in fact many of the collections are exclusive to Inverted Edge), only fresh ideas and designs which are bound to revitalise your wardrobe. Inverted Edge has carefully curated, talented, original designers that seem to be the shining fashion stars of tomorrow, and made them available on an international stage. On your laptop…in your living room!
Featured here are just a few of our picks from the S/S 14 Collection but do check out the site for more selections and keep your eyes peeled for their events which are frequent, usually include fab discounts and have a personal stylist on hand to help guide your way through a new fashion frontier.
YESIMFRENCH
Love the name and who hasn’t coveted a French girl’s style at one time or another?! The look is elegant sportswear, with a Fifth Element, futuristic tweak! Love the fact that the collection is playful and irreverent but the chic colour palate and strong silhouettes keep it stylish and minimal.
Karen Walker
A designer from New Zealand, Karen Walker’s style is girly and exuberant. One could imagine Zooey Deschanel going nuts for it. Bold patterns, bright colours and sweet detailing make it super cute, and we’re also loving the enamel bangles.
Carrie K
We just can’t get enough of Carrie K and it seems neither can you as her designs seem to be popping up everywhere. LOVE the Spilled Rings which have a ‘Solange Azagury Partridge’ feel but at a fraction of the price tag.
If you’d like to view the collection firsthand or book yourself in for a private styling session with the Inverted Edge team at their warehouse location, simply email ByAppointment@invertededge.com with your preferred date, time and number of people attending. And if you are browsing online and see a little something that takes your fancy.
