If you’ve read any of my previous reviews, then by now you must know I’m a hardcore meat-eating machine! It’s on my list of hobbies, curriculum vitae and it’ll probably be on my gravestone. When I heard Dempsey was housing a cute little eatery with a free flow meat buffet for a stupidly cheap deal.. well you can imagine my face. It was somewhere between smug and pure born delight.
There’s a few more outlets across the city, but ashamedly I’d been to none of them until last week. Nevertheless, being a true cynic, when I heard of this wonderful concept, I was a little bit dubious of the quality of the meat served in such a place. From my previous experiences of free flow meat, I was imagining leftover, reheated rubbish. Here are my hands, I’m holding them up because I was way off the mark.
Carnivore, Brazilian Churrascaria, has its name for the very reason that it is a meat lovers paradise. For $49++ (and $20++ per child) you can eat as much of everything as you like, an absolute bargain for the quality of the meat served here. I’m loving this Dempsey setting, out of the way of the actual heart of Dempsey hill and secluded in a peaceful little hideout. The lovely outdoor decking area is perfect for chilling with a big glass of wine, kicking back and waiting to be served some succulent cooked meat to your table, by a traditional passador (a waiter who knows his way around a knife). The relaxed approach taken to buffet dining here, along with the consistent quality of food is smooth and happy dining at it’s best.
Beef will always be my top pick of meat, and the Beef Rump and Beef Hump did me proud. Both perfectly cooked succulent meats. The rump is tender, soft on the tongue and seriously salty, which only compliments the natural flavour of the meat. In other words this is, for me, textbook beef.
The hump is a completely different flavour, it’s flakey and a lot more fatty than the rump, but again it’s delicious! Besides the beef, the Escolar Fish (butter fish) would be closely next in line. It’s exceptionally juicy, chunky, meaty and thoroughly infused with flavour. If these don’t tickle your fancy there are plenty of other delicious meats on offer, including spicy pork sausage and if you’re feeling a little more brave, chicken heart.
If you’re not as meat mad as me, then there is also a hearty buffet full of all kind of delicious dishes from potatoes to more traditional dishes such as The Feijuada, pork and black bean stew served with heart of palm.. which by the way is a must try and full of extraordinary flavour.
If you think of yourself as a meat lover then make a visit here and unleash your inner carnivore!
