In little under a year, Dexter Café and Bar has firmly established itself as one of Bangkok’s favourite eateries. With an expansive menu and a funky atmosphere, it’s no wonder that BKK foodies flock from all corners of the city for their fix.
The very first thing I notice about an establishment is how they greet their customers. I can’t emphasise how much I value a smile and a warm welcome; something you won’t be left longing for at Dexter. Cheerful, friendly and more than willing to recommend their favourite nibbles; they will most certainly enhance the dining experience.
Interior of Dexter Café & Bar
Once seated, you may find your head rotating as you notice the expertly designed interior. Chilled beats echo from the speakers as you enjoy the inspirational quotes and modern art that adorn the walls. Before long, you’ll be presented with a menu bursting with comfort food from around the globe that even the most seasoned scoffer would find difficult to choose from. Nevertheless, here are my top picks:
Before you get started on the grub, you’ll want to clean that palate. Dexter’s drink menu offers a wide variety of choices including soft drinks, fruit juices, smoothies, beer, cocktails, wine, spirits, whiskeys and more. My personal non-alcoholic favourites are the Lychee Mint Smoothie (110 bt) and the simple but glorious Lime Soda with Honey (80 bt). It is also worth noting that Dexter brings in coffee beans from around the world, so you can expect an array of different brews by their barista.
Filled with fresh salsa, cheese and succulent chicken, the Tortilla Wrap with Chicken Salsa (218 bt) is the perfect choice for those in need of a tasty snack.

As an Irishman, the sight of Fish and Chips (298 bt) on a menu is almost too much to handle. It’s one comfort food that I crave on regular occasions. Although not the traditional cod from which I was raised on, the use of white snapper at Dexter is a pleasant surprise. Fresh from the sea and with just the right amount of bite, it is only surpassed by the batter from which it resides in. Crispy…crumbly…perfection!
My final choice from the savoury menu needs to be reserved for the Spare Ribs with BBQ Sauce (348 bt for medium, 458 bt for large). The use of a knife and fork here is nothing less than sheer blasphemy. Enormous chunks of tender, off the bone meat should be eaten one way and one way only; with your bare hands, caveman style!

Those of you whom enjoy food with a bit of UMPH! will love the Strawberry Soup with Mint and Vanilla Ice-Cream. Bittersweet, tangy and incredibly refreshing, it is the perfect ending to a great meal. But if you’re more of a classic dessert person, you’ll be hard pressed to find a Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice-Cream (248 bt) that’ll rival the one at Dexter. Upon reaching your table, you can clearly smell the freshly baked sponge that has just left the oven. One touch of your spoon and her inner chocolatey centre will erupt across your plate. Quite simply, it’s one of the best desserts I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting.

One more thing, Dexter will be celebrating their first anniversary on Friday, September 4 2015 at 6pm. If you haven’t yet been acquainted with one of Sathorn’s finest, there has never been a more perfect time to do so.
