There were a couple of shocks in Singapore’s fine-dining scene this year. First, Chef-Owner Andre Chiang closed his two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Andre in February, returning to Taiwan to focus on RAW Taipei. At the end of last month, the city’s only three-Michelin-starred establishment Joel Robuchon Restaurant shut its doors alongside its two-Michelin-starred sister restaurant L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon barely three weeks before the third edition of the 2018 Michelin Guide Singapore, which took place tonight at Resorts World Sentosa.
Before the stars were revealed, the organisation honoured restauranteurs and chefs that helped to shape Singapore’s food scene in its early stages. They include Ms Jenny Yap and Mr Raymond Ou Yong from Guan Hoe Soon Restaurant, Mr Hooi Kok Wai and Mr Chris Hooi from Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, Mr Roland Lim and Mr Justin Lim from Roland Restaurant, and Mr James Loy and Ms Jane Tan from Loy Kee Chicken Rice. Without further ado, here are all the Michelin stars awarded this year.
Two Michelin Stars
Though punters might have speculated that Odette might potentially receive another star, the fact is now that there are no more three-starred restaurants in Singapore. No surprises in this category, with all five restaurants – that are still open – keeping their two stars.
- Les Amis, Shaw Centre
- Odette, National Gallery Singapore
- Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro, Mandarin Orchard Singapore
- Shoukouwa, One Fullerton
- Waku Ghin by Tetsuya Wakuda, Marina Bay Sands
One Michelin Star
Alas for Resorts World Sentosa (again), almost all thirty restaurants from 2017 held on to their stars with the exception of its modern Australian restaurant Osia. Of the five new establishments, we’re especially happy that personal favourites Burnt Ends and Restaurant Nouri both joined the list, alongside Four Seasons Hotel Singapore’s classic Cantonese restaurant Jiang Nan Chun, gastro wine bar Ma Cuisine, and Sushi Kimura.
