Dear Nora is an adaptation of a classic by Norwegian playwright, Henrik Ibsen, titled, A Doll’s House. A timeless and influential play, it revolves around the life of a woman named Nora, who appears to be happily married to her sweetheart, Torvald. They have three lovely children, and Torvald has just been offered a prestigious, well-paying job, spelling an end to the family’s financial troubles.
Nora and Torvald are living every young married couple’s dream – until three inopportune characters elbow their way in: Kristine, a long-lost friend who is in need of help, Nils, a desperate man who will do anything to save himself and his child, and Dr. Rank, a trusted family friend who nurses a deep secret of his own.
What follows is one of the most iconic and reverberating moments in the theatre, as Nora decides to leave her sheltered life and crumbling marriage, slamming the door behind her.
Dear Nora transposes the characters and action to contemporary Singapore, where the narrative and themes are presciently relevant and reflective of our society today.
