Heard it over the wire? Electronic music takes centre stage this weekend as we present a sonic bloom of electropop and live looping. Sit back and take in refreshing originals by both new and returning artists such as Weish, sub:shaman, Pixel Apartment and NUS Electronic Music Lab’s Cosmic Armchair and Ocean’s Children.

NUS Electronic Music Lab

The Electronic Music Lab is a performing arts group and music collective based at National University of Singapore Centre for the Arts. Their members create, perform, record and promote original electronic music.

The electronic music artists and bands of the lab include instrumentalists like Nanowander (glitch), Bottlerack (chiptune), Skysprinter (EDM), and vocal-led electro pop bands Ocean’s Children and Cosmic Armchair, whose music has been compared to Massive Attack, Ellie Goulding, La Roux and Depeche Mode. They have performed extensively at various Singapore venues.

Weish

Weish is a Singapore artist whose primary medium is live loops with creations of multi-layered landscapes of sounds infused with singing, vocal percussion and occasional instrumentation. In one year, she has performed for Canadian indie rock band Tegan and Sara and at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, as well as other numerous venues in Singapore.

sub:shaman

10 – 10.45pm

sub:shaman is a group of sound makers, comprising IsaO, Weish, Syadie, Hanis and IsaF, who continue to reinvent and redefine the structure and boundaries of their music. Formed in 2012, the quintet has a preference for dark, groovy and occasionally chaotic tunes, with a style that is bold and rife with musical twists and turns.

Pixel Apartment

Pixel Apartment is a one man band consisting of multi-instrumentalist Jordan Chia. Jordan explores a fusion of sounds comprising electronica, trip-hop, drum and bass on a makeshift drum kit and other assorted instruments.

Jordan Chia is a graduating Recording Arts and Science student under full Scholarship at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. A multi-instrumentalist, producer and audio engineer, Jordan has been involved in many recording projects and performances in recent years.

Jordan started learning piano at the age of 11 but has since explored other instruments such as the guitar, double bass and zhong ruan during his involvement with Chinese Orchestra and rock bands during junior college.

In 2009, Jordan started a solo studio project called Pixel Apartment, under the mentorship of industry veteran, Nick Chan, known for his vision in the electronic collective MUON as well as being the founder of Wallwork Records. Pixel Apartment serves as Jordan’s primary outlet for composition and experimentation. Jordan’s work in Pixel Apartment has been sought after by film producers.

Jordan is a regular performing musician, playing keyboards, electric bass and singing in Pixel Apartment and MUON in various festivals in Singapore.

He is currently working on Pixel Apartment’s next full-length release, Clouds and Cities.
