Oodles of Noodles: Unique Noodle Shops in Singapore

Love noodles? So do we. Few things are quite as comforting as a piping hot bowl of bouncy noodles, accompanied by a tasty sauce or broth, and a generous portion of toppings – especially on the cold, rainy days. We’ve rounded up a few noodles places that we’ve been to recently to feed our noodle obsession:

(Closed) Face To Face Noodle House

The story of Face To Face began over 100 years ago, when the founder’s owner left China for Hong Kong to learn the art of making the unique jook sing noodles, one of the rarest forms of noodle-making in existence due to its difficulty. Each strand here is handmade using ancient techniques passed down the decades, from the chewy Traditional Sarawak Noodles to the to piquant Sichuan Pan Mee. Make sure to try the fresh broth mixture, made with specially picked soy beans and crispy anchovies.

Face To Face Noodle House is located at #02-23/24 City Square Mall, 180 Kitchener Rd, Singapore 208539, p. 6509 0182. Open daily 11am – 10pm.

Shi Miao Dao

Shi Miao Dao is China’s biggest restaurant chain that specialises in Yunnan’s famous crossing-the-bridge rice noodles, something you can now try for yourself! The noodle’s provenance stemmed from a story where a woman would cross a bridge daily to an island to bring her husband’s – a scholar studying for his imperial exams – lunch. By putting the ingredients and noodles in the hot soup only after she arrived, this meant that the food could be served fresh.

At the new VivoCity outlet, the bowls are pre-heated at 250 degrees so the thick vermicelli – made from pure rice flour – is cooked within 10 seconds. The perennial crowd pleaser is the Original soup, brewed for six hours from chicken and pork bones. There are also variations that build on the original base like Tomato, Mala, and Pickled Cabbage. Each set comes with a spread of ingredients like chicken wing, beancurd skin, black fungus, ham, quail egg, and seafood.

Shi Miao Diao is located at Food Republic @ Vivocity, Level 3, Singapore 098585, p. 6276 0521. Open Sun-Thu 10am – 10pm, Fri-Sat 10am – 10.30pm.

Wanton, Seng’s Noodle Bar

Hailing from the famous Seng’s Wanton Mee of Dunman Food Centre comes this eccentric noodle bar on Amoy Street. Almost 50 years later, the folks here serve up time-perfected wanton mee with a contemporary attitude that even Ah Seng himself would be proud of. The deliciously thin noodles are seasoned and cooked perfectly, served with your choice of meat (pork belly or char siew), and we highly recommend getting the 5-minute egg to go along. Still hungry? Dig into side like Fried Dumplings, Yam Croquettes, and Herbal Chicken Wings.

Wanton, Seng’s Noodle Bar is located at 52 Amoy Street, Singapore 069878, p. 6221 1336. Open Mon-Thu 11.30am – 2.30pm, 6pm – 10pm, Fri 11.30am – 2.30pm, 6pm – 11pm, Sat 6pm – 11pm.

(Closed) Chow Fun Bar & Restaurant

Chow Fun is a playful nod to the legendary Cantonese fried noodle dish available at most Chinese restaurants in America – where chef-owner Alicia Lin spent 20 years of her life. Decked out in vibrant chinoiserie hues, the menu here is pretty novel, comprising over 18 Asian and Western-inspired noodle small plates with a creative twist. The portions are relatively small, which means it’s easy to try the different varieties available, such as Kung Fu Dashi BrothWild Mushroom and TruffleTom Yum Cream, and Pink Shrimp. All-day happy hour!

Chow Fun Bar & Restaurant is located at 200 Turf Club Road, #01-08, The Grandstand, Singapore 287994, p. 6464 6900. Open Tue-Sun 11am – 12am.

A Noodle Story

A Noodle Story has some of the best noodles in Singapore – a fact supported by their recent Bib Gourmand nod. Inspired by modern European and Asian flavours, the most popular dish here is the Singapore-style Ramen, an inventive local take on its Japanese counterpart – showcasing super springy noodles tossed in aromatic dressing and served with wantons, soy-flavoured hot spring egg, tender char siew, and a crispy potato-wrapped prawn. Gourmet quality noodles at hawker prices!

A Noodle Story is located at  7 Maxwell Rd, Amoy Street Food Centre #01-39, Singapore 069111, p. 9027 6289. Open Mon-Fri 11.15am – 2.30pm, 5.30pm – 7.30pm, Sat 10.30am – 1.30pm.

(Closed) Noodles Bar

Other favourites include the Whole Abalone La MianEggplant and Pork Belly, and for some extra oomph, the Sichuan Dan Dan.
