11 MAY 2016 | Part of what makes ‘Leave Me Alone’ such a blast is the impression it gives of Hinds as a tight-knit girl gang, on and off record. The dual vocals of Carlotta Cosials and Ana García Perrote help, as do songs like ‘San Diego’ – its chorus is yelled with glee, complementing lines like “He couldn’t stay here one more night / So take me to the beach, alright!” Meanwhile, in ‘And I Will Send Your Flowers Back’ Hinds deliver the ex-boyfriend-skewering number that every album of this type should have – sonically tender, but a textbook girl group iron fist-inna-velvet glove.
No girl group in recent years has caused the furore that Hinds has. Four girls under 25 from Spain and a teenage drummer from Holland didn’t seem the most likely break out band of 2015 but in a jaded musical landscape of hipster beards and bland synth-pop tunes that screamed made for sync, Hinds ramshackle, youthful energy and couldn’t give a f**k attitude was clearly what the world was clearly waiting for. There’s no pretence or artifice to Hinds live performance it is straight up rock n roll, bursting with energy as 4 star The Guardian review of their London show puts it.
HINDS is performing on Wednesday, 11 May 2016 at Kult Kafe from 7pm to 10.30pm. Tickets are priced at $35 and are available via Peatix.
