If I asked you to serve me up some of your homemade, signature grub in your own home, that would be a bit weird, wouldn’t it? No? I mean, going out to dinner with someone is different to having them rocking up to your home to judge your ancient family recipes and home hygiene right? Well, what if I asked you to serve me and a bunch of other strangers? We went along to Plate Culture’s first Singaporean hosted dinner and it wasn’t at all weird, instead an amazing connection of foodie-minds.
So you rock up to a strangers home with a bottle of wine and are greeted with a bunch of other random people. The good thing is, you all have one thing in common…food! We were delighted to be invited to the VERY FIRST (ooooooh!) Plate Culture experience, for a Turkish come Brazilian experience in this beautiful home.
Greeted by two bubbly hosts with a globally-inspired passion for food and wine, we were served a few fine bottles of the latter and mingled amongst ourselves whilst this epic piece of meat was being browned off on the outdoor BBQ…let’s just say they saw me coming.
I quickly learnt just how seriously the hosts were taking their Turkish food, with most of the ingredients having been brought over from Turkey. We snacked on some plump Turkish olives, homemade hummus and homemade baba ganoush served with crispy french bread. On top of that, there was a well put together bruschetta too. These starting nibbles made for a deliciously morish feed in itself.
Salad, hunky boulders of meat, and this amazing little apricot, rice, nutty number..
We don’t know what we did to deserve such great hospitality, with such genuinely interesting, lovely people, but thank you Plate Culture for bringing everyone together.
Go on then, here’s the feast one last time in all its glory.
Absolutely finally, before we rolled out of the apartment and on to the street with bellies the size of the world, we were blessed with this amazing Brazilian coconut cake. It looks plain, but it’s sticky, sweet and packed full of coconut flavour. A winning recipe!
Plate Culture is a newly-launched concept, that offers a platform for hosts to express their passion for cooking and effectively have their very own ‘chef experience’. Food and host are both vetted before hand, so don’t worry about any weird experiences if you’re attending a dinner. If you like to cook, any cuisine is accepted. If you prefer to bake, well that’s fine too. Any kind of dining experience is welcomed with open arms so if you think there might be a secret chef in there somewhere, draw them out and host a dinner with some like-minded people!
And if you’re less the chef, and more a person that just loves to eat and you’re looking for a brand new experience filled with laughter and great food from around the world, then try one of Plate Culture’s dining experiences.
