Hotel Review: Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan Makes You Feel Like Royalty In The Thai Capital

Can’t get enough of the Roaring Twenties? Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan is a luxury boutique property with an Art Deco style so convincing, it might as well be stuck in the past. It’s also complete with a fine Italian restaurant and funky rooftop bar, in case you weren’t convinced.

Space & Location

The hotel is located in the affluent neighbourhood of Chitlom — the posh Lang Suan Road, to be precise. It’s a reasonably short walk to the nearest BTS station, or a slightly longer one to Lumphini Park, one of the city’s rare green spaces.

Part of Sofitel’s high-end MGallery collection, Hotel Muse has won countless awards for both its unique design and outstanding service. One thing we instantly notice is the gothic atmosphere in the hotel’s public spaces. The lobby is steeped in metal girders, ornate balustrade railings, and black marble. Emerald green bankers lamps are a common sight around the reception area. Even the facade wouldn’t look out of place in old Manhattan.

Rooms

There are 174 rooms and suites in the building, and ours is a Jatu Deluxe, a comfortable entry-level room that measures a generous 39 sqm. It’s a fairly moody room decked in dark timber and dim lighting, even if you pull back the curtains. Not the most lively room we’ve seen, but it exudes a sense of accessible luxury, from the king-size bed and chaise lounge to a solid wood work table and oval cabinet.

Classic European designs are juxtaposed against ornate Asian motifs, as seen on the room’s wallpaper and bathroom mirror. From the large clawfoot bathtub, you can look out into the room through a large glass window (yes, there are curtains if you’re not into that.) Other things you’ll find include premium tea and a coffee maker, iPhone docking stations, and large IPTV with a whopping 65 channels.

Facilities & Services

Having been out drinking every night in the city, we dragged ourselves to the 19th floor fitness centre for rehabilitation, where we found the latest Life Fitness cardio and strength-training machines. The treadmills featured a LDC touchscreen console and USB connectivity so we could watch Netflix while jogging. Outside, a small landscaped infinity pool looks out into the shapely Bangkok skyline, with a particularly lush corner that’s popular for photos. You can order smoothies and Thai-inspired drinks from the adjacent bar.

F&B

Take your pick from four dining experience at Hotel Muse. We enjoyed a scenic breakfast buffet at Babette’s, and while it gets crowded in the morning, the food — some Thai and Indian options alongside the usual western fare — does the trick for us. Make your way back in the evening for some of the city’s best steaks, fine wines, and live jazz. You can also opt for dinner at the Italian restaurant in the basement. Medici specialises on local and sustainable ingredients and tapas-style recipes with a Mediterranean touch.

Next to the lobby is Le Salon, the small lounge where the ambience and menu choices change throughout the day, going from gourmet breakfast and lunch dishes to a traditional afternoon tea. You can enjoy signature Hotel Muse cocktails here, and also at the Speakeasy Rooftop Bar on the 24th and 25th floors. Upstairs, we sat in the Bangkok night while nursing a Martini, and what a feeling it was to looking down onto those twinkling lights. A stay at Hotel Muse is quite the hedonistic experience, but really, sometimes you just want some fanciful indulgence in your life.

Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan is located at 55/555 Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok, +66 2 630 4000. Rates start from USD157 per night.
