Interview: The Steve McQueens Unveil Second Full-Length Album, Terrarium

The Steve McQueens refuse to be pedestrian in their music and in their lives, swerving between tight magnetic grooves and a cool seduction. Formed in 2013, the young Singapore-based band aims to light up the world with their own brand of self-styled soul-funk, neo-vintage, jazz, and with the much-awaited upcoming release of their second full-length album, TERRAЯIUM, on 29 September, it’s only a matter of time.

Featuring Eugenia Yip on lead vocals, Joshua Wan on keys, Jase Sng on bass, and Aaron James Lee on drums, the group has been invited to numerous international festivals around the world, including Japan’s Summer Sonic, Indonesia’s Java Jazz, and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, where they have been praised for their electrifying live shows and exceptional musicality. In fact, The Steve McQueens is the first Singaporean band to play in the acclaimed The O2 Arena in London.

Two years after the release of Seamonster, which was produced by renowned acid jazz group Incognito founder Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, the new album is a reflection of the musicians’ journeys – both individually and as a collective – in the interim, as they reaffirm their artistic purposes and the SMQ sound. Being comfortable with living and embracing growth – that is what TERRAЯIUM is about. There will be new directions, there will be new blossoming, and there will be plenty of grooviness – all intentional, of course.

Heading to Japan in late October? The band will be heading to Japan for a multi-city tour, playing one festival and four club dates including Moon Romantic in Omotesando, Tokyo, and Motion Blue in Yokohama.
