Just Opened #12: Singapore’s newest restaurants and bars

This week in Just Opened, an American, an Italian, a Mexican and a Japanese and no it’s not a bad…’walks in to a bar’ joke! Plus a new watering hole for those who like to sit on top of the world.

Cicheti

Cicheti (pronounced ‘chi-KEH-tee’) are the delicious morsels served in accompaniment with a fabulous glass of Italian wine in Venice’s bàcari, or wine bars. The signature snacks are mouthwatering and flavourful but also quick and accessible, so to build a restaurant concept on that, seems a prudent idea! Just recently opened on Kandahar St, Cicheti brings a little of that old world Italian charm in to funky and modern surrounds that remain comfortable and warm, thanks to some savvy design choices. The menu has delicious sounding classics like Polpette di Carne (meatballs sautéed in a slow-cooked, homemade tomato sauce) and a wood-fired oven which bodes well for our ongoing quest for the perfect pizza! Plus we heard rumours of an extensive selection of Grappa cocktails which definitely has us intrigued!

Cicheti is located at 52 Kandahar Street, Singapore 198901. Opening hours are Tuesday – Sunday: 6pm – midnight. For more information check out their website here and to make a reservation, please call 6292 5012.

Lower East Side

More Mexican?!!!! MORE? Urm …yes please shouts everyone on the East Coast! And so, here is Lower East Side. Because everyone should have a good Mexican near by, not just us central folks. With just what you’d expect, burritos, tacos, and a few surprises…Octopus and Squid burrito anyone? The menu although small, sounds varied enough and lip-smackingly tasty. We are rather curious about the Habanero challenge where you can test your spicy capabilities, or foolishness – whichever way you look at it! With a good selection of craft beer, this looks set to be a great local hang-out spot for those looking to get their Mexican fix on the easy-breezy East coast.

Lower East Side is located at 19 East Coast Road, Singapore, 428746. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 12pm – 11pm. No reservations, for more information see here.

Shirokiya

Shirokiya is a new casual Japanese restaurant in the cosy enclave of Cuppage Terrace with a very healthy, wholesome concept. The menu is based on the principles of ‘Bishoku Ryori’ (food that promotes good health and beauty) and ‘Soken Ryori’ (use of traditional Japanese natural food seasoning). Featuring food items that are high in collagen, hyalruonan, capsaicin and lycopene power, Shirokiya’s menu offers a potent anti-aging choice of dining for its customers and offers a holistic meal health and neutralises free radicals. Wow put that expensive face cream away ladies, and just head on down! In line with its message of healthy dining, non-alcoholic beverages will be available of course, but if that all sounds a bit too healthy and your body needs a bit of bad to counterbalance the good, have no fear because there is also an alfresco bar.

Shirokiya is located at 43 & 43A Cuppage Road, Cuppage Terrace, Singapore 229463. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 3pm – 2am. For more information see here and to make a reservation please call, 6732 8588.

Me&Oue Lounge

The restaurant has been around for quite some time, delighting with its fine dining and swishy surrounds but with the recent opening of a rather fabulous new outdoor lounge, sipping on your after work cocktail just got a bit more glamorous. We really like the fact that rather than perchy, high stools, they’ve gone for a laid-back, more sumptuous look, which is entirely more comfortable. With sweeping views over Marina Bay Sands, great DJ’s, canapés, cocktails and a calendar of proposed evenings like Martini Tuesdays- helloooooo! and Monday to Friday happy hour from 5pm to 8pm, what’s not to love!?

Me&Oue is located at 50 Collyer Quay. Singapore 049321. Opening hours for the lounge are Monday – Saturday: 5pm – 2am. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

The Beast

A restaurant and Bourbon bar, the name alone makes us happy.. THE BEAST!!! it commands a certain something doesn’t it? Inspired by the slightly rough and ready watering holes of the southern states, the beast is a taste of the American South on our little red dot.  Featuring Southern comfort food, craft beers, speciality bourbons and the finest in Southern hospitality, there is even word that they will soon be serving up grits (sound weird, surprisingly delicious)! Seems like with this recent addition Jalan Besar just got a bit more hipster!

The Beast is located at 17 Jalan Klapa, Singapore 199329. Opening hours are Monday – Thursday: 5pm – 1am. Friday – Saturday: 5pm – 2am. For more information, take a peek at their Facebook page here.
