In this installment of Just Opened we’ve got cheap and cheerful Vietnamese street dishes, a super-chic izakaya, sushi straight from Hong Kong, our favourite steak and super sauce joint and… unleash your inner wolf!
Sushi Kuu
The popular Japanese sushi restaurant with a loyal following from Hong Kong arrives in Singapore…cue much excitement! Known for its selection of high quality ingredients, super fresh thick cuts of fish and exquisite presentation, Sushi Kuu is the number one choice for many Hong-Kong-ites who want excellent sushi and sashimi in an unpretentious yet trendy, buzzy atmosphere. A word of warning, the prices aren’t cheap, but we hear there are some affordable lunch sets for those of you wishing to get your sushi fix without spanking the wallet!
Sushi Kuu is located at Palais Renaissance, #01-06/07 , 390 Orchard Road, Singapore, 238871. Opening hours are Monday -Sunday 12pm-3pm, 6pm-10.30pm. For more information check out their FB here and for reservations please call 6736 0100.
Wolf
Although the foodie obsession in Singapore is well-documented, less thought is given to the origin of our food and unfortunately with organic prices so extortionately high, the concept of ‘from field to fork’ is a bit alien here. Well, a definite step in the right direction is Wolf, a new ‘nose to tail’ restaurant opening in Singapore on the 21st of October. For those of you unfamiliar with the term…nose-to-tail may seem a modern concept but is in fact the revival of a economical European way of cooking, in which no part of the animal is left uneaten. In practice it means unusual and sometimes mind-bogglingly tasty dishes with unique bold flavours you may not have experienced before. Singapore’s first nose to tail restaurant from the Prive Group is inspired by Fergus Henderson’s revolutionary 1-Michelin star restaurant, St. John. Fergus Henderson famously said that he felt it was more polite to eat the entire animal, rather than allow wastage! The aim is to encourage diners to reconnect with their primal urges and embrace rarer parts of the animal. All sounds very intriguing.
Wolf is located at 18 Gemmill Lane, Singapore 069255. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm, 6pm to midnight. For more information see here and for reservations please call 6557 2224 (but only from the 21st October!).
L’Entrecote
You know we’re big fans of L’Entrecote over here at City Nomads, so always good to know there’s now a third location where you can get your ‘steak, sinful secret buttery sauce, golden frites and walnut salad fix’! Diners can now enjoy the tried and tested total dinner success in a brand new 130-seater location in the heart of the City. Although the concept in simple, nothing beats a damn fine steak and chips and it seems you guys wholeheartedly agree!
L’Entrecote is located at Suntec City, #B1-128/129, Singapore, 038983. Opening hours are daily from 11.30 am to 9.30 am.
Izy Dining & Bar
This is an izakaya but not as you know it! No slightly raucous atmosphere, unwashed business men and home-style cooking here. Instead expect small plates with exploding flavours, an uber chic, ultra modern and very cool interior – think beautiful pop art walls and kooky light fixtures, and apparently the GM is from the Ritz-Carlton so service should be outstanding. Also, it’s a well known but not officially acknowledged fact that Chef Yoshihiro Narisawa of Narisawa – of many a top international restaurants list – lent his expertise and considerable skill to a few dishes and no doubt imparted some delicious wisdom. All sounds amazing, Izy is looking like our new favourite place and don’t even get us started on the fact that Club Street is once again becoming a foodie-lovers paradise!
Izy Dining & Bar is located at 27 Club Street, Singapore 069413. Opening hours are Tuesday – Saturday 6pm- midnight.
Nam Nam Noodle Bar
You know a place is good if you actually haven’t been able to eat there yet because the queue is always out the door! I regularly pass by the Raffles City branch and still have never made it in for one of their famous Pho Beef Steak Slice or Caramelised 5-Spice Pork Belly banh mi. Well, fingers crossed, their new flagship outlet at Suntec City, which opened on 12 September might have space for a lil Nomad! Not fancy food by any means, but totally delicious healthy Vietnamese offerings (with no MSG- hurrah!) this place is one of the Les Amis Group’s more casual offerings but it seems that we just can’t get enough of the iconic Vietnamese street dishes.
Nam Nam Noodle Bar no 3 is located at Suntec City, #B1-131, Lot 510 TS 11, At Temasek Boulevard, Singapore 038983. Opening hours are daily from 8am to 9.30pm. For more information click here.
You asked us to tell you about brand new places and we listened – that’s just how we roll! If you know of a new spot in town that we’ve not mentioned yet, please do let us know… we value your recommendations, and we hope you never get over the fun of discovering something new and exciting. Thanks Nomads.
