Just Opened #8: Singapore’s newest restaurants and bars

In this week’s Just Opened we bring you vegetarian delights that will make even devout meat-eaters hungry, truffle delights, a new addition to the cafe scene, cakes that almost look too good to eat (we said almost!) and a new place for you and your furry best friend to hang out together…and we’re not talking about your unshaven boyfriend!

Truffle Gourmet

If you’re familiar with our casual policy…truffles on EVERYTHING! you can only imagine how excited we are by this new opening. New wine bar and bistro, Truffle Gourmet seems to love truffles just as much as we do, with a menu based around the delicious treats and accompanying fine wines. The bespoke crest is a nice fancy touch but don’t be put off thinking this is all about pretentious Chuck Bass wannabes! The decor is discreet and understated and we hear that the ambiance is welcoming, leaving you to enjoy the absolute culinary perfection that is truffle on eggs, truffle on cheese, truffle on fries, truffle on …just about anything really.

Truffle Gourmet is located at 49 Club Street, Singapore 069426. Opening hours are Monday – Friday: 11.30am – 2.30pm, 5.30pm – midnight. Saturday: 5.30pm – midnight. For more information please see their Facebook page here.

CERA CLOSED

Ok, so their logo is a smiley dinosaur which we love…but on top of a decidedly cute logo, CERA have a noble aim…to bring vegetarian food to a whole new perspective; working with hundreds of flavours, cooking techniques and combinations to make vegetarian food fun and exciting! Suitable for vegans also, it seems like the health-conscious soon will be flocking to Upper Thompson Road in droves to check out the chef’s creative and delicious veggie offerings. Like for example Roasted Bone Marrow which is in fact potato hollowed out into a bone marrow- esque shape, stuffed with mushrooms and mascarpone, drizzled with pesto and garnished with edible flowers! And a darn tasty looking Burger which is actually lentil, chickpea and mushroom. They have also vegg-ed up some classic hawker market fare so we say this one’s not just for devout vegetarians, we want to try it too!

CERA is located at 906M Upper Thomson Road, Singapore 787110. Opening hours are Tuesday -Thursday and Sunday: 12pm-11pm. Friday – Saturday : 12pm-2am. Closed: Monday. For more information see their Facebook page here or to make a reservation, please call 6554 2372.

Lady M

We keep hearing abut this Lady M! Who is she and how come her cakes are so tasty? Combining French pastry techniques with Japanese exquisite precision, Lady M is a huge hit with some pretty fancy folks like Issey Miyake and Linda Evangelista…which is interesting because we didn’t think supermodels ate cakes??? Known for creating the freshest and finest confectionary delights, Lady M invented Mille Crêpe cake, her piece de resistance, which is no less than twenty paper-thin handmade crêpes layered with floaty-light pastry cream, gently caramelized on top until golden. Apparently each one takes approximately 10 hours to create so do stop and pause before you wolf it down…that’s a whole day’s work! On a serious note, not only is everything rumoured to be utterly delicious but the presentation is absolutely beautiful. Dieter’s …we’re sorry.
Lady M is located at Marina Square Shopping Mall, 6 Raffles Boulevard #02-103, Singapore 039594. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 11am – 9pm. For more information take a look at the Facebook page here and for reservations please call 6822 2095.

Lola’s Cafe

Another new cafe? Can Singapore possibly need another new cafe you may ask…well, the answer is a resounding yes! This new addition to Kovan’s brunching scene is a welcome one. Run by a chef/barrista and a baker – so you can expect a fine cup of coffee and a mean cake – it’s small, cozy and has just the right amount of quirky. A lot of the furniture is actually for sale, including the ‘oh-so-now’ sewing machine tables and the gramophone plus a selection of vinyl records giving it a homely touch. Tempting us on the the menu is the Avocado Eggs Benny but these guys also serve up lunch, dinner and have a great selection of craft beers. Honest, unpretentious comfort fare at great prices in a comfy setting, sounds like a win!

Lola’s Cafe is located at 5 Simon Road, Singapore,  545893. Opening hours are Tuesday: 3pm – 11.30pm. Wednesday – Thursday 3pm – 11.30 pm. Friday – Saturday 10am – midnight. Sunday: 10am – 11.30 pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.

The Furry Cafe

Our cutest Just Opened yet – a dog-friendly cafe for folks that want to eat, drink and be merry with their furry kids in tow…brilliant! Speaking from experience as a dog owner here’s the deal…you go to the dog park and sit in the sun with no refreshments getting mildly parched watching your dog have a fab time OR you take your dog to The Furry Cafe where the dog has a fab time playing with their pals, nibbling on a homemade Unagi and Seaweed doggie treats and you get to pick from a satisfying menu of comfort food influenced by American-Japanese lifestyle accompanied by a refreshing beer. Urm…I know where I’d rather be!

The Furry Cafe is located at 1 Sophia Rd #01-52, Peace Centre, Singapore 228149. Opening hours are Monday – Tuesday: 3pm – 9pm. Thursday – Saturday: 1pm – 11pm. For more information check out their Facebook here.
