In this week’s Just Opened’s round up of new restaurants, cafes and bars in Singapore we seem to be inadvertently focusing on alcohol and cake….which is no bad combination really!
The Sweet Movement
You know we’re fiends for all things naughty and sweet, so we’re delighted that the folks behind dessert.cup (the always temptingly delicious booth at Raffles City) have now opened a second outlet in the ‘very now’ Jalan Besar. Offering up a wide selection of bite-sized sweets from pop-sized cocktail cones to petite mousses, waffle tartlets and much more in between – sweet-tooths will find this place heavenly. With new desserts, flavours and formats being introduced each month, they throw up some unexpected combinations that will make your tastebuds do a happy dance. Two words….Macaron Choux. If you’ve not tried them yet, we urge you to hot foot it down there, this combo of a macaroon and little profiterole is divine!
The Sweet Movement is located at 62 Somme Road, 01-01, Singapore 207877. Opening hours are daily 12pm – 8pm except Monday and Thursday. For more information see their Facebook page here.
The Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie
It seems like only yesterday we were singing the virtues of Singapore’s latest addition to the Bakers scene, but they’re obviously doing something very right as after only a few months, the second outlet of The Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie has just opened, this time in Great World City. Baked fresh daily by award-winning artisan baker, Eran Mayer, their goods are not only fresh, tasty and tempting but also the variety across the selection of breads, pastries and sweets is superb. Next time we go to the cinema we know just what we’ll be smuggling inside in our handbags! The Chocolate Eclairs are pure enjoyment.
The Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie is located at #01-23 Great World City, 1 Kim Seng Promenade. Opening hours are daily 10am – 10pm. For more information, see their website here.
Vida Vino
That Keong Saik Road! It’s hipper than a hipster in hipsters, isn’t it? Well, the latest addition to the street is Vida Vino, which translates as ‘Wine Life’. We like! Offering a superb selection of wines and tapas bites, we’re loving the look of the comfy slick furnishings and sultry interior.
Vida Vino is located at 29 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089136. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday: 6pm – midnight. To make a booking please call 6222 1963 and for more information, see their Facebook page here.
Jekyll & Hyde
We’re big fans of the folks behind Manicurious, so it stands to reason that we’d be big fans of their next project, Jekyll & Hyde….which like its name, is a bit of a split personality. No doubt inspired by the number of ladies who requested something with a bit more kick than a coffee to accompany their pampering; this new multi-purpose space is part nail boutique, part hipster bar. With a former Bar Stories mixologist at the helm – so we know cocktails will be imaginative and delicious; a slick NYC loft-like interior; a distinctly understated luxe finish and of course their excellent manicurists, we think it sounds like a veritable paradise for ladies. Suddenly your nail varnish chipping seems like an excellent opportunity, right?!
Jekyll & Hyde is located at 49 Tras Street, Singapore 078988. Opening hours are Monday – Thursday: 6pm – midnight. Friday – Saturday: 6pm – 1am. For more information see their Facebook page here.
Backstage Cafe
Another collaboration from those coffee connoisseurs Papa Palheta, Backstage Cafe is an unexpected little gem of a find, much like how Loysels Toy was when we first discovered it – a bit out of the way, you wonder who goes, but then you get there and have a “ahaaaaa” moment. You won’t walk past it and stumble in, it’s hidden amongst the harsh backdrop of an industrial estate, but once you’re there, you could happily bed down and stay forever. The large space, high ceilings, comfy chairs, great coffee and selection of munchies make this a superb hideout and we hear they already have a dedicated following of fans who love the chilled out, unpretentious vibe.
Backstage Cafe is located at 158 Kallang Way, #01–06, Singapore 349245. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday: 10am – 9pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.
P.s. We hear there’s a rumour going around that the folks from Potato Head in Bali have bought a property in Keong Saik Road …although totally unconfirmed, HOW EXCITING! so we thought we’d spread a little gossip. If it’s true, then great and if it’s not true, hopefully the Potato Head people will hear the rumour and realise it’s a really good idea!
