Just Opened August 2015: 10 New Restaurants and Bars to Check Out

August isn’t just about donning red and white to cheer at the parade, our military might, and fireworks. This month sees more than a few outstanding new additions to Singapore’s booming food & beverage scene. From a unique farm-to-table restaurant to more Michelin-starred chefs in Singapore, we’re hitting you up with the perfect antidote for your post-holiday blues. Here are 10 new restaurants and bars to check out in Singapore this month.

Cure

Teaming up with Joel Fraser of The Cufflink Club, restaurateur Andrew Walsh’s latest dining establishment embodies his preference for explosive flavours. The newly opened bistro offers diners a set menu of contemporary European cuisine based on seasonal ingredients. If you’re not a fan of degustation menus, head to the bar for after work munchies – we recommend the Mix Seed Sourdough ($8) with bacon butter (yes, really) and fermented cabbage – and drinks.

Cure is located at 21 Keong Saik Rd, Singapore 089128. Tel: +65 6221 2189

Open Farm Community

A rare commodity amongst Singapore’s urbanism, Open Farm Community (OFC) is an exclusive farm-to-table restaurant boasting over 10,000 metres of land space. A collaboration between Spa Esprit and Edible Gardens, OFC promotes sustainable eating – their deliciously cooked grub utilises plenty of fresh produce from their homegrown garden. Foodies can sink their teeth into delectable dishes such as the spicy Squid Ink Taglierini ($26) , the pleasurable Coal Baked Omelette ($24), and the heavenly Lemon Tart with Basil Ice Cream ($17).

Open Farm Community is located at 130E Minden Road, Singapore 248819. Tel: +65 6471 0306

Humpback

Serving up fresh oysters scourged from the North West of the Pacific Ocean, Humpback is the Jigger & Pony Group’s latest concept in Singapore’s culinary scene. After the success of watering hole Jigger & Pony and rum-and-barbecue restaurant Sugarhall, Humpback is set to shake up the sleepy street of Bukit Pasoh. Besides slurping freshly shucked oysters, try their invigorating seafood-skewed menu featuring the likes of rainbow trout and baby blue mussels, and indulge in clever cocktails by beverage programme director, Aki Eguchi.

Humpback is located at 18 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089832. Tel: +65 6750 4461

The Flagship

Located next door to Humpback and also from the folks at Jigger & Pony, The Flagship’s no-nonsense attitude and gritty interiors (think exposed bricks and neon pink lighting) redefines cool by veering away from the stereotypical set-up of a bar in Singapore. At this whisky bar, connoisseurs of the popular spirit will be able to pamper themselves with the choice of over 100 labels, with the list set to grow to 200 in the coming months.

The Flagship is located at 18 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089832.

The Carvery

A roasted meat buffet restaurant located at Park Hotel Alexandra, expect meaty delights such as roasted leg of lamb and beef prime rib to be laid on your plate by experienced carvers (who also make expert recommendations on condiment pairings) at The Carvery. They also have an incredible array of side dishes to try, such as the perfectly seasoned Golden Polenta Fries, the exceptional Lamb Stew, and the sublime Cauliflower Gratin.

The Carvery is located at 323 Alexandra Road, Singapore 159972. Tel: +65 6828 8880

Bōruto

Sequestered in between Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, Bōruto is a tapas-style izakaya restaurant with a wide range of Sake labels. While it may be easy for fusion restaurants to receive flak if they get their food combinations wrong, we’re glad to say that this chic eatery doesn’t belong to that category. Check out impressive inventions such as the Uni Pasta (Angel Hair) topped with Hokkaido White Wasabi ($35.80), and wash all that Japanese goodness down with a glass of refreshingly cold sake.

Bōruto is located at 80 South Bridge Road #01-01 Golden Castle Building, Singapore 058710. Tel: +65 6532 0418

Palette Restaurant & Bar

Thanks to a steady influx of cool new restaurants, Capitol Piazza is fast becoming a hot dining destination in the city. Located right at the heart of the new mall is Palette Restaurant & Bar – an upmarket food court that brings together a mind-blogging selection of cuisines, mostly local, under one very comfortable roof. Their highly-lauded tenants include renowned brands such as Indochili, Yong Xin Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle, Hok Kee Authentic Hong Kong Noodle & Congee, and Ah Koong Restaurant.

Palette Restaurant & Bar is located at 13 Stamford Road, Singapore 178905. Tel: +65 6499 5599

La Ventana

Dempsey’s second entry on our list this month is Catalonian restaurant La Ventana, which does a Harry Potter on us by popping out of nowhere. Mashing a sleek, white-washed exterior with beautiful wooden furnishings, this new restaurant is part of three Michelin-starred Chef Carles Gaig’s ambitious vision to expand in Asia. Gorgeous servings of tapas-sized plates are cleverly given subtle, yet innovative twists, while the dessert menu is inspired by the traditional recipes of Gaig’s grandmother.

La Ventana is located at 16A Dempsey Road #01-01, Singapore 247695. Tel: +65 6479 0100

Alma by Juan Amador

A matador of fine dining, Juan Amador has brought his bravado and ingenuity to our sunny shores, joining in the fray of celebrity chefs that have already brought their brands to Singapore. This three Michelin-starred Chef’s will be stamping his authority with his Asian-inspired European cuisine at Goodwood Park Hotel and we can’t wait to see what magic he’ll be cooking up in his kitchen.

Alma by Juan Amador is located at 22 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228221.

FRESH Singapore

With their funky cartoonish interior and retro tunes blasted from the stereo, FRESH Singapore has got us typing them throwback hashtags by transporting us back to the best part of the nineties and noughties. Sip on deliciously crafted cocktails as you reminisce the days Britney was still prancing around in a schoolgirl outfit and remembering the times Tom Cruise began dodging bullets in Mission Impossible. And lest we forget, these guys have their very own rooftop Satay bar as well!

FRESH Singapore is located at 101 Jalan Sultan, The Sultan, #02-01, Singapore 199002. Tel: +65 8828 7084
