New Restaurants in Singapore

Ka-Soh Greenwood

One of Singapore’s oldest family-owned institutions opens its third outlet in Bukit Timah’s Greenwood enclave. The cosy 64-seater restaurant is a blast from the past, featuring a payphone from the 1980s and antique vases in its decor. Known for its Cantonese Style Fish Soup, Ka-Soh also offers classic Singaporean favourites such as Prawn Paste Chicken, Spare Pork Ribs, and Sweet & Sour Pork. Plus, third-generation owner, Cedric Tang has innovated new dishes just for the Greenwood branch, including the juicy Oatmeal Pork.

Matsukiya

A premium offering from the Sushi Tei group, Matsukiya serves up traditional Japanese kushiyaki. The skewers are charred over binchō-tan (white charcoal) that burns longer and cleaner, and is better in bringing out the natural flavours of premium ingredients such as Miyazaki Wagyu Rib-eye and foie gras. Working in the Orchard area? They’ve launched executive lunch sets, starting from S$25 – choose from three types of kushiyaki, together with a starter, misoshiru soup and rice.

Lè Fusion

Travel the work from your dinner table by the Singapore River at Lè Fusion; and Lè here is not French for “the”. Rather, it’s pinyin for “joy” in Mandarin. Helmed by a passionate husband-and-wife team, this east-meets-west joint focuses on using quality ingredients creatively to reinvent the dining experience, while preserving the DNA of Chinese cuisine Highlights include the Crispy Pork Belly Mantou (S$12), Imperial Double Boiled Soup elevated with premium Chinese wine, and the Tsingtao Beef Fillet (S$42).

Gazette

Brought to Telok Ayer Street by two native Belgians, Gazette is a cosy restaurant tucked away dishing out Belgian classics such as the Beef Cheek Carbonnade (S$26) – tender beef cheek stewed in Belgian beer, and served with special Belgian fries – Atlantic Cod Waterzooi Gent-Style (S$32), cooked in a creamy fish broth and white wine. For dessert, the Belgian Waffle (S$12) with warm chocolate and cream is a must-try. Did we also mention Stella Artois is going at just S$6+ during Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm daily?

PS.Cafe (Great World)

The newly-refurbished Great World Singapore saw a mini explosion of new places to eat and amongst them is a new PS. Cafe. What’s different? Well, with over 4,300 square feet of space, it’s a foliage-filled sanctuary near town. Plus, you can journey down the “Spice Route” with outlet-exclusive creations, including the Spiced Biryani Salad (S$26), a lighter alternative to the classic biryani with Turkish bread, eggplant, and tomato chutney. For some sugar, try the PS. Banoffee Pie (S$10).

Ginza Anzu

Recently relocated to Great World from Japan Food Town in Wisma Atria, Ginza Anzu is an overseas branch of an authentic tonkatsu (pork cutlets) restaurant in Tokyo’s Ginza neighbourhood. In Singapore, they continue to take pride in using fresh Kyushu produce and delivering a satisfying crunch with every bite. Signatures include their Hot Pot Pork Loin Katsu Set (S$28), which sees breaded pork loin cooked in an egg-swirled broth, and the Ginjo Pork Fatty Loin Katsu Set (S$38).

What can we say? Tanglin Mall has become cooler with the addition of Metta, Singapore’s newest whisky and gin bar. Owned by the same people behind North Indian fine dining establishment Yantra, Metta sports the similarly plush seating with a more convivial atmosphere. Drop in for bespoke tipples and a good range of Scotch whisky, or pick your favourite gin and relax as a “gin trolley” concocts your cocktail up table-side.

Hopstation

Hopstation might not be Singapore’s first artisanal craft beer and cider establishment, but you might want to see their wide selection of bottles and 13 beers on tap, particularly with its CBD fringe location. Prices range from S$15 to S$17, and half pints from S$10 to S$12, and we hear they have an ass-kicking Squid Ink Spaghetti Aglio Olio ($24) too.
