New Restaurants in Singapore
Angela May Food Chapters
The folks at Déliciae Hospitality Mangement (aka the guys behind L’Entrecôte and Sabio concepts) have teamed up with American-Thai culinary host and TV presenter Angela May for an all-day dining spot in Orchard road. Look forward to East-meets-West dishes with a strong emphasis on veggies, like the Caramelized Cauliflower Steak ($22) with roasted pepper purée and Josper Roasted Prawns, Shaved Baby Radish & Jicama Salad ($26).
Angela May Food Chapters is located at #02-02 Robinsons The Heeren, 260 Orchard Road, Singapore 238855, p. 6681 7440. Open 10.30am-9.30pm daily.
Sen of Japan
Affordable luxury never gets old and diners will find Sen of Japan the next champion of the concept. Chef Nakano Hiromi, previously of NOBU Las Vegas, is the creative force behind the dishes at this casual Japanese restaurant and bar. With a focus on fresh ingredients (sen means fresh in Japanese), diners can expect modern Japanese plates like Filet Mignon Tataki ($12.50) and Black Soy Cod ($24.50) coupled with stunning views of the ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay skyline. Psst, Chef Nakano will be in the kitchen on 30 April – 1 May and 6-7 May 2016 for the opening!
Sen of Japan is located at #01-86 Bay Level, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, 2 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018972, p. 6688 7426. Open 11.30am-11pm daily.
Saint Pierre
After three years in Quayside Isle, Saint Pierre has returned to the city and Chef Emmanuel Stroobant to his fine-dining roots. The new incarnation features two dinner menus – Earth (vegetarian) and Nature – which are both available in six ($148 and $158) and ten ($178 and $188) courses. The restaurant’s Essence-Centric cuisine, referring to essences of natural ingredients from stocks and seasonings that flavour the dishes, will also be available in a four-course lunch ($85).
Saint Pierre is located at #02-02B One Fullerton, 1 Fullerton Road, Singapore 049213, p. 6438 0887. Open Mon 6.30pm-11pm, Tue- Fri 11.30am-3pm, Sat 6.30pm-11pm. Closed Sundays.
Ninja Bowl
Taking over the space of the now-defunct Department of Caffeine, Ninja Bowl is the latest addition to The Astronauts Group, which also owns Babette and Chillax Café. On the menu, you’ll find mainly Japanese-fusion rice bowls like the Tsukiji ($16) – think tuna tataki, asparagus & edamame, onsen egg, and pickled cucumber. Those looking for brunch food can look to the Fancy French ($16) toast drizzled with ume-boshi infused honey, grapes, plums, and hazelnut butter.
Ninja Bowl is located at 15 Duxton Road, Singapore 089481, p. 6222 8055. Open Mon-Fri 9.30am-7.30pm, Sat-Sun 9am-6pm.
Crystal Jade Prestige
The Crystal Jade group has made their debut in the CBD with their new fine-dining concept, Crystal Jade Prestige. Positioned as second only to Crystal Jade Golden Palace in Paragon Shopping Centre, the contemporary Chinese restaurant serves up Hong Kong style Cantonese fare, albeit with a more inventive approach. Expect dishes like the Smoked Peking Duck ($88) and Deep-fried Scallop ($20) with salted egg yolk.
Crystal Jade Prestige is located at #02-01 Marina Bay Link Mall, 8A Marina Boulevard, Singapore 018984, 6509-9493. Open Mon-Fri 11.30am-3pm, 6pm-10.30pm, Sat-Sun 11.30am-3.30pm, 6pm-10.30pm.
Mo’mor Izakaya
Inhabiting the space previously occupied by Maca Restaurant, Mo’mor Izakaya is a concept by local veteran chef Martin Woo serving up crowd-pleasing Euro-Japanese tapas and grilled plates. The tapas menu features dishes like the Grilled Iberico Pork Jowl ($12) with pickled apple and Plum Tomato Ceviche ($12) with nori vinaigrette, while the mains include Australian Grain Fed Ribeye ($38) and Pan Roasted Chilean Seabass ($34). Two-course and three-course set lunches are available at $15 and $18 respectively.
Mo’mor Izakaya is located at #B1-01 Tanglin Post Office, 56 Tanglin Road, Singapore 247964, p. 6463 8080. Open Mon-Wed 11am-11pm, Thu-Sat 11am-1am, Sun 11am-11pm.
Captain K Seafood Tower
The latest Korean concept to hit us, Captain K Seafood Tower’s most glorious offering is the nine-tier seafood tower ($288.90, feeds eight). While we’ve seen the likes of prawns, scampi, rock lobster, scallops, oysters, and crabs in tower, do note that the crustaceans on offer are dependent on seasonality. Smaller groups can opt for the three ($52.90), five ($98.90), and seven-tiered ($188.90) towers. Each set comes with various dipping sauces, barley tea, and banchan (Korean side dishes).
Captain K Seafood Tower is located at #01-02 Income@Prinsep, 30 Prinsep Street, Singapore 188647, p. 6255 2270. Open Mon 6pm-10.30pm, Tue- Sun 11.30am-3pm, 6pm-10.30pm.
New Bars in Singapore
Mikkeller Bar Singapore
After making inroads to Bangkok, Seoul, and Tokyo, Singapore can finally say “me too!” when it comes to having a Mikkeller Bar. This Danish microbrewer started in 2006 by founders Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Kristian Klarup Keller in a bid to create their experimental brews. Operated out of a shipping container at DECK by Corrine Chia and Lincoln Goh – the folks behind Druggists – Singapore’s Mikkeller Bar will have 20 rotating craft beers on tap. What better time is there to join the craft beer revolution?
Mikkeller Bar Singapore is located at DECK, 120A Prinsep Street, Singapore 187937, p. 6352 0950. Open Tue-Sun 4pm-12am. Closed Mon.
