The new month brings about fresh faces in the bar and restaurant scene, from traditional Japanese and Chinese fare to Asian concepts that are a tad bit more modern in interpretation. Chalerm Thai

All the best flavours associated Thailand can now be found at The Capitol Kempinski. Chalerm Thai is the latest addition to the hotel’s varied repertoire of dining concepts, sure to satisfy your tastebuds with classic favourites such as the Tom Yum Goong (Thai seafood tom yum soup), Phad Thai Kung (stir-fried rice noodles), and Khao Phad Sapoarod (pineapple fried rice). Named after the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre in Bangkok, Chalerm Thai promises comfort flavours with their traditional recipes, sauces, and spices imported from The Land of Smiles.

The Garden Club

The Garden Club is the latest rooftop escape in the heart of the CBD. From a stunning rooftop setting and vivacious music to a comprehensive food menu, there’s everything you need for an unforgettable moment. Health is one of the restaurant’s main focus, and you’ll find that vegan and plant-based alternatives paint over most of the menu with things like Smoked Baby Corn, Fried Curry Okra, and Wild Herb Karaage. As the day progresses, The Garden Club’s menu changes as well: from coffee in the morning to bowls and desserts for lunch and teatime.

Sushiro

Japan’s largest conveyor-belt sushi chain has dropped into Singapore! As the first outlet in Southeast Asia, Sushiro at Tiong Bahru Plaza offers over 100 varieties of sushi and side menu selections, with prices starting from S$2.20. Using ingredients imported directly from Japan, Sushiro is dedicated to serving high quality sushi and employs an advanced IT system programmed to automatically remove a plate from the lane after a fixed time so you get the freshest of the fresh. Exclusive and seasonal mainstays will also be unveiled periodically to keep diners surprised.

Una Una

Fans of unagi can rejoice, for there’s a new specialty restaurant in town serving up some fantastic charcoal-grilled fish. Be treated to a wonderful spread of unagi offerings like the hitsumabushi, bento boxes, or set meals with sashimi, sushi rolls, and salads. Utilising authentic unagi sauce from Japan, the eels are expertly grilled with a double-dipping technique over charcoal to give the fish its characteristic flavour. The best part? All of Una Una’s offerings are extremely affordable.

Tong Xin Ru Yi Traditional Hotpot

Because there’s no such thing as too much hotpot. Tong Xin Ru Yi prides itself for its unique range of housemade signature soup bases (think  Stewed Marinated Beef with Spicy Soup and Golden Frog Soup). These come brimming with a suite of delicious ingredients such as Premium Eight Second Beef (S$24), Black-bone Chicken Slice (S$20), and BBQ Garlic Oysters (S$32/six). A DIY sauce bar (S$2) allows you to mix up a wide array of condiments to create the perfect sauce to complement the fresh and flavoursome ingredients.

REBEL

The newly revamped TripleOne Somerset now houses one of the newest forays in Singapore’s gourmet sandwich scene: REBEL. Taking inspiration from the Vietnamese Banh Mi and other Asian dishes, REBEL offers a wide selection of sandwiches, including vegan and vegetarian options. While most of the sandwiches are fixed, more adventurous patrons can choose to mix-and-match the available ingredients to create a sandwich that’s truly theirs. REBEL is also proud of their coffee, which is ethically sourced from small-batch coffee roasters and coffee growers.

Smith Street Taps & Friends

What started as a single store back in 2013 with just a few beers on draft has now expanded with something of a cult following. While Smith Street Taps continues to serve an international collection of craft brews, the new Smith Street Taps & Friends – which takes over the space of The Good Beer Company – a few stalls down will proudly and permanently offer all Singapore-brewed or conceptualised craft beers and meads. On the lineup for now are beers from the good folks at Brewlander & Co., Rye & Pint Brewery, Daryl’s Urban Ales, That Singapore Beer Project, Pink Blossoms Brewing, Lion City Meadery, and Brewerkz.

Writer’s Bar

After a lengthy restoration, the Raffles Hotel has reopened with a completely fresh look. Back to stay is the iconic Writer’s Bar, which pays tribute to the many famous authors who have stayed at the hotel throughout the years. Helmed by award winning head bartender Paul Hammond, the bar will set out to create artisanal and classic cocktails inspired by the stories and experiences of the writers participating in Raffle’s new “writer-in-residence” programme. You’ll also find a refined selection of fine champagnes, spirits, and wines to inspire.

Platform

Platform is a café-bar along Amoy Street that serves low-ABV cocktails from as early as 12pm. Opened by the same people behind the now-defunct Fancy, you can think of it as a second coming. Focusing more on flavour profiles, owner-bartender Sin Kim Shin (he’s also a Diageo World Class 2017 winner) creates tasty, refreshing tipples that’ll help you beat the heat. Not neglecting the café part, Platform also brews fragrant coffee from beans sourced around the region, with their own processing and roast profiles. It’s a unique concept that redefines the way we drink, and we’re expecting great things.

Malts

Malts is an up-and-coming whisky bar nestled in a cosy spot in Marina Square. A premium whisky bar, it sees more than 400 bottles on display across over 100 labels to choose from, including Japanese favourites like Yamazaki and Hibiki. What sets Malts apart from the others is its emphasis on pairings, with beautifully-prepared food that pairs well with its fine whiskies. For the discerning whisky lover, Malts offers a variety of whisky tasting flights that’ll take guests across various brands and ages, coupled with canapés and dinner. In addition to whisky, Malts has a decent variety of cocktails, beers, spirits, and wine.
