PTT Family, the group behind Potato Head Beach Club in Bali, as well as Potato Head Folk in Singapore, will be launching their very first hotel in early April 2016! A refreshing addition to the hotel scene in Bali, Katamama is an all-suite boutique hotel located in the prime oceanfront district of Seminyak.
All aspects of the 58-suite property, be it design or experience related, is centred on the concept of “handcrafted hospitality”. Designed by Indonesian architect and long-time PTT Family collaborator Andra Martin – with interiors by the owners and Singapore-based design company Takenouchi Webb – the design elements of Katamama pay homage to the Balinese lifestyle.
With lush green gardens and the utilisation of Indonesian materials such as Balinese bricks, teak, hand-made tiles from Java, and terrazzo made on site, the experience is one that melds real luxury and Indonesian culture seamlessly in a contemporary context. Furthermore, guests can also expect exciting international brand collaborations within the disciplines of design, fashion, music, art, mixology and the culinary arts enhance the hotel experience.
Those on the hunt for a convenience of a hotel with the intimacy and serenity of a villa will be spoiled here. Katamama is offering some of the largest hotel rooms in Bali across all categories, with the entry category at 82 square metres (883 square feet). The ultimate refuge is probably the luxurious Rooftop Suite; measuring 268 sqm (2885 square feet), these two-story suites have internal access to a rooftop garden complete with stunning ocean views.
Filled with curated artwork, handpicked furniture and cherished collectibles, all suites boast outdoor spaces, which come forms of balconies, secluded gardens and private pools.
Katamama also forms the core of a community of like-minded businesses; a neighbourhood that is fast becoming Bali’s creative hub. These local establishments include Potato Head Beach Club, Escalier (Indonesia’s leading independent luxury fashion boutique), and Alchemy, the island’s first 100% raw vegan cafe & juice bar.
Two more establishments – MoVida and Akademi, both already open – are situated within the hotel’s compound. The former is a collaboration between the restaurant group in Australia and PTT Family, so think Spanish cuisine combined with Potato Head’s design and distinctive architectural expression. The latter is a bar by ward winning mixologist Dre Masso. Their curated cocktail selection features Indonesian tropical ingredients that have previously been overlooked.
Ronald Akili, one of Indonesia’s leading entrepreneurs and head honcho of the PTT Family, has broadened his hospitality horizons with Katamama. And not one to rest on his laurels, we can now expect a second landmark property – a collaboration with world-renowned architecture practice OMA, headed by Rem Koolhaas – to be completed in 2018, with the third slated for a 2019 opening!
Katamama will open in the beginning of April 2016, for more information on the hotel, please visit their website.
