[Bodhi](https://www.facebook.com/wearebodhi) (UK / FUTURE CLASSIC):
One listen to the crystal clear rapture in the sound of Bodhi (Olly Howells and Luke Welsby) shows the funk influenced, completely fresh take on dance music this young duo have to offer. Channeling the vibes of uplifting, dusty house into the sleekest forms of modern bass music, their enchanting, dancefloor-ready vibe is already demanding considerable attention. Their name and musical ethos was taken from the Bodhi tree – an Indian symbol of spiritual enlightenment – but Howells and Welsby’s production career began at school and in the clubs of Cardiff. After years spent in guitar bands and experimenting with multiple instruments, the boys of Bodhi found common musical ground in exploring the stimulating new ground that electronic music had to offer.
Both Olly and Luke reveal a love of Motown, funk, blues and 90s RnB in their production that was handed down from their parents, combined with the exciting climate of sounds pushed forward by artists they admire. Their ‘feel-good music with grooves’ takes an old school house sound and jacks it up with deep strummed funk rhythm basslines, producing tracks that sync with the wave of house and garage dominant bass music that is inspiring so many fresh UK electronic artists.
Bodhi’s crisp productions highlight the retro sounds the duo capture and it’s this quality that caught the attention of Push & Run; one of the most exciting and fast rising labels on the scene, whose admirers include Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, naming them his ‘Label of Love’ on BBC Radio 1. Over the past 12 months Bodhi have achieved a number two spot on XLR8R’s monthly ‘Most Downloaded’ charts, a number 1 spot on Hype Machine, featured on Mixmag as ‘Mix Of The Week’ and filmed an ‘Introducing’ session at the prestigious Red Bull Studios. A release on Sindens ‘Grizzly’ imprint with ‘Culture’ and ‘Deliquesce’ earned the duo further hype across the blogsphere and Hype Machine, as well as receiving love from a host of Radio 1 DJs and producers, including the likes of Rob Da Bank, Giles Peterson, Toddla T, Skream & Benga, SBTRKT, FaltyDL and Brodinski. Considering these young Welshman have only been producing together for little over a year, Bodhi are fast capturing attention from all the right places with their own distinctive pedigree of forward-thinking music.
