Lewin Terrace presents an exclusive Sake dinner, featuring Sake Samurai – Mariko Kiyonaga

Lewin Terrace proudly presents an extraordinary food and sake pairing dinner, featuring Mariko Kiyonaga, Japan’s fifth inaugurated Sake Samurai who, for the first time in Singapore, shares her vast knowledge of Japan’s national drink and its importance in Japanese culture. For the short presentation, she will highlight the three major types of sake: Kunshu, Soushu and
Junshu.

The five-course dinner is crafted by Lewin Terrace’s star Chef de Cuisine Ryoichi Kanu, who explores the five major tastes creating dishes to match each sensation: Umami – Fresh Japanese Fish Marinated in Konbu; Salty – Fresh Oyster, Sea Water Jelly; Sour – Chicken Wing Sour Stew, Potato Tart; Bitter – Roast Pork, Fuki Miso; and Sweet – Vanilla Ice Cream with Hanahato Kijoshu; all of which are perfectly paired with sake. During the dinner, Mariko Kiyonaga provides insights on how each sake is aligned with and chosen to enhance the flavours of each dish.

Mariko Kiyonaga hails from Fukuoka, Japan and was inducted as a Sake Samurai by the prestigious Japan Sake Brewers Association in 2010. She has visited 60 of Japan’s breweries and tasted over 200 kinds of sake. Since relocating to Singapore with her family in April 2014, she has continued her mission to promote Japan’s national drink and culture, including organising Singapore’s first ‘Sake Kanpai’ event to coincide with the celebrated Day of Sake in Japan on 1 October 2014, with the participation of 35 restaurants in the city.

This Sake Dinner is priced at $218++ per person and will be held on Monday, 27 April from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at Lewin Terrace.
