MusicFest@SGH

The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Campus will come alive with the sound of music on Friday, 31 October 2014 as local and international artists perform in wards, walkways, and open spaces for MusicFest@SGH 2014.

The event will see the entire SGH Campus transform into a huge performance space with an array of musical activities at all corners. Professional and amateur artists, students and staff will be serenading patients and visitors with over 40 hours of music in places which are traditionally not concert venues such as chemotherapy treatment rooms.

More than 250 performers from 40 groups will be performing at the most unexpected spots such as the lobbies, wards, specialist outpatient clinics and gardens. Patients and visitors will be treated to performances throughout the day at SGH, National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS), Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), and the Academia.

The mobile performances will kick-off at 10am at public areas of the SGH Campus and patient wards. The event will climax at 7pm with performances by some of Singapore’s most talented artists in a Concert Finale.

‘We are excited to extend the reach of MusicFest@SGH to new areas of the SGH Campus. Music has a therapeutic impact on our patients and visitors, and it is through such efforts that we hope to bring happiness to them, creating a soothing hospital environment. We are extremely grateful for the contribution of the arts community and our volunteers who have so passionately given their time to support this project,’ says Mumtaj Ibrahim, Community Relations Manager, SGH.

In its second year at the Hospital, the performers of MusicFest@SGH all have one aim in mind, and that is to bring the joy of music to those who might not be able to access it at a time they need it most.

‘We are thrilled to welcome back Sebastian Tan and Jonathan Leong,’ says Nathalie Ribette, Artistic Director and Producer of MusicFest@SGH, ‘and very excited to bring to the Hospital new acts likethe acclaimed Tribute to ABBA by Cat Ong & Friends that wowed the audience just a few weeks ago at the Esplanade for the concert finale.’

MusicFest@SGH is a free event, open to all, supported by Novartis for the second time.
