As Singapore’s very first public library, the National Library consists of 2 main areas: the Centre Public Library, and the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library. With the former having over 200,000 books in its collection, and the latter being home to over 7 levels worth of material focusing on everything from business and science to the arts and social sciences, it’s not uncommon to see hoards of students and bibliophiles alike wherever you go.
The National Arts Council’s Drama Centre is also built onsite, making it a popular location for many theatrical performances. (We’re particularly looking forward to the staging of Tribes, which will incorporate Singapore Sign Language into its performance!)
One of our favourite areas in the National Library is the outdoor garden, which provides a tranquil and relaxing space for you to spend an afternoon reading – so be sure to check it out the next time you’re in the area.
