Sungei.net projects present ‘One By One Metre Space’, an exhibition that investigates ideas of transitory spaces, physical changes and the contestation of land.
As the historic flea market make way for the Sungei Road MRT station in 2017, questions about the use of our urban spaces and their intrinsic value are brought up by the participating artists. Presenting artworks by Adrian Tan, Debra Ong, Jennifer Ng, Ling Yang Chang and Mindy Tan as they interrogate the transitory space, connect with its people through interviews and field notes and record their observations. The artists will articulate their ideas in a myriad of art forms where paintings, sculptures, moving images and performance art will form conversations and exchanges around the demise of these ‘1 x 1 m spaces’.
One By One Metre Space is on exhibition from 15 January 2016 to 21 February 2016 at Flaneur Gallery. Opening hours are Wed to Fri: 3pm – 8pm, Sat to Sun: 1pm – 6pm.
