Future Perfect is proud to present six nights of special screenings from Independent
Curators International’s Project 35 Volume 2 for the first time in Singapore. In 2010, ICI
launched Project 35, a multifaceted compilation of 35 works selected by an international
group of 35 curators exploring video as a contemporary art medium. For this second
installment, ICI invited curators from its extensive network to trace the complexity of
regional and global connections among practitioners and the variety of approaches they
take to the video medium. The project comprises four programmes of single-channel
works, each identified by a curator for its importance to a specific audience, and its
resonance for a wider, global one.
At Future Perfect, the four programmes will be screened nightly from 15 August through 17
August, and again from 22 August through 24 August. Each night’s session will feature a
Q&A and discussion with Bangkok-based curator, Mary Pansanga and the Future Perfect
team. Individual works range in length from two to 26 minutes.
The international perspective of this project is reflected in the wide-ranging topics
addressed by the videos. Protests in South Africa, youth culture in Ho Chi Minh City, and
news broadcasts in China are among the subjects explored. The series also reveals the
diversity of techniques and styles employed by contemporary video artists, ranging from
documentary and online video aesthetics to claymation and digital animation. Project 35 is
a study in the power of images, and the role of the media in shaping our collective
experience.
