Singapore Originals: Michaela Therese

Michaela Therese is a soul vocalist, pianist, songwriter, producer and teacher, who has been at the forefront of Singapore’s music scene for over 10 years. She has released 2 well-­‐received EPs and has sold out 2 shows at The Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay, Singapore.

Her most notable performances include a duet with Brian McKnight and opening sets for Jose James and Carleen Anderson. In 2013, the soul musician played shows in London, Colombo, Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur, and was invited by Sennheiser to play at the Java Jazz Music Festival.

Michaela was born into a musical family and started playing the piano at age 4. She was 13 when she and 3 close friends from her church choir won a national music competition and from then, she knew music would be her path.

After junior college, Michaela joined the hiphop collective “Urban Xchange”, which was signed to Universal Music and was the spokesband for Coca-­‐-­‐Cola’s “Life Tastes Good” campaign. She also furthered her music education in Lasalle College of the Arts and graduated in 2004. By that time, she was a well-­‐-­‐respected solo musician in the Singapore live music scene. Michaela has played long-­‐-­‐standing gigs at Swing Jazz Bar, Harry’s, Acid Bar, Timbre, Klee and many others.

On February 1st this year, Michaela Therese presented the first single, ‘Final Call’, off her long-­‐awaited full-­‐length album titled, My Name Is MEEKELLAH. The album will be released in the first half of 2014. Known also as the lead singer of L.A.B. and as Miss Mic in the club scene, Michaela will be promoting her album in the months to come as well as working on new material for upcoming releases.

Michaela is currently based in Singapore.
