Singapore Staycation Spotlight: Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

“Why would anyone want to stay right beside the airport?” is something you’ve probably wondered about before. Now that we’ve experienced Crowne Plaza Changi Airport for ourselves, we can give three easy reasons off the top of our heads: the hotel is beautiful, the runway views are incredible, and it makes for a convenient pre-holiday staycation. In other words, this is one property you don’t want to cross off your list just yet.

Location & Space

Voted World’s Best Airport Hotel at the Skytrax World Airport Awards for the past five consecutive years, Crowne Plaza is seamlessly connected to Terminal 3 of Changi Airport. It’s also situated close to Singapore Expo, Changi Museum, and East Coast Park should you want to stray outside for a walk. Oh, and the brand new Jewel, with some 300 retail and food options too. As you might expect from a hotel at this airport, the property design is dramatic and stylish, laden with sleek architecture, cosy nooks, and verdant gardens.

Rooms

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is more like a five-star resort than what typically comes to mind when you hear “airport hotel”. For one, even the most basic of its 563 rooms are above average size around 30 sqm. They are also soundproofed and thoughtfully designed to exceed even our expectations.

Our Deluxe evokes a contemporary feel with warm hues and smart technology, from smart privacy glass panels that can be toggled with a switch to the 40-inch Smart TV with Miracast and Airplay functions. Oh, the WiFi is extremely reliable as well. The king bed is comfortable as can be, and spacious writing desk sits near the entrance with an ergonomic Hermann Miller chair and powerful Bluetooth speaker. We love the multiple USB charging ports strewn throughout the room — how else will your phone get enough juice to Instagram everything here?

Similar to the gorgeous marble bathrooms at Fort Canning Hotel, the one here makes up the last section of the room, and are just as stunning. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out into the facade of the hotel or part of Jewel Changi Airport. The nature-based bathroom products from This Works are as premium as they come, along with a freestanding shower cubicle and large bathtub.

Facilities

Does a 30-metre landscaped outdoor swimming pool strike your fancy? Take a dip to cool down or bask in the sun on their poolside loungers with a cocktail in hand. Plus, their 24-hour fitness centre is well-equipped with a large punch bag, rowing machine, ellipticals, and treadmills that let you watch YouTube during your workout. Even if you’re aching the next day, you’ll be able to get pampered at their Essence Vale Spa with soothing massages and aromatic baths across four idyllic treatment rooms.

You’ll want to upgrade to a club just so you get access to Crowne Plaza’s intimate Club Lounge, where you’ll find wide sofas and ergonomic work desks for your business needs. And can we just say how excellent the service is? Enjoy a private buffet every morning before coming back for a soirée in the evening.

F&B

On the first floor, Azur offers a la carte all-day dining as well as an international buffet breakfast for hotel guests. An open kitchen provides the backdrop to a contemporary cooking theatre of sorts, as experienced chefs whisk up eggs done to your liking, sushi, flavoursome cuts from the carvery, fresh seafood, and decadent Asian sweet treats.

Higher up, Bar 75 is a funky sports bar that recreates the heady ambience of old 70s Asia, complete with Warhol-inspired artwork on the walls. Alternatively, sit back with friends over afternoon tea or evening drinks at the luxuriously decorated Lobby Lounge, which overlooks a greenery-lined patio. It’s the kind of balmy relaxation you deserve.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is located at 75 Airport Blvd, #01-01, Singapore 819664, p. +65 6823 5300. Rates start at $283 per night. IHG Rewards Club members can also enjoy exclusive rates and earn IHG Rewards Club points to redeem for free nights or air miles.
