Singapore Staycation Spotlight: First Look at Swissôtel The Stamford’s New Premier Harbour View Rooms

Previously, we took you to a tranquil spot in the CBD surrounded by plenty of food options and a bachelor pad-like luxury serviced apartment on the fringes of Orchard Road. As the year inches closer to the festive season, we checked into Swissôtel The Stamford this month. Standing 73 stories tall in the heart of town, its location is perfect for all of your year-end shopping needs, gatherings, and other any prep you require.

The hotel has been an iconic member of the Singapore skyline since it opened its doors in 1986, so it was definitely due for a facelift of sorts. The multi-million dollar renovation will see a complete overhaul of all 1,261 guestrooms and the first phase has recently concluded on schedule, yielding spanking new rooms. We checked into the latter last week and the view from the balcony of our Premier Harbour View Room didn’t disappoint. It’s basically an excellent vantage point that overlooks the Singapore we know and are proud of, including the Esplanade, the Marina Bay area, Boat Quay, and the Padang.

The room itself, as you’d expect of Swiss hospitality, was well appointed, comfortable, and it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s 30 years old. The new life that Swissôtel’s design agency Wilson Associates breathed into the 40 square metre (430 square foot) space includes a rustic colour scheme to teak and stone inspired by chalets in the Swiss Alps that’s complemented by soothing hues of grey and maroon, as well as a dynamic lighting system that features motion sensor safety lights – so if you’re like me and not great with spatial awareness, you don’t have to worry about bumping into furniture when moving around in the room at night.

Those who can’t do without their coffee will be glad to know that all the rooms at Swissôtel come with a Nespresso machine (and TWG tea) while those who live on electronics will appreciate the universal wall sockets and USB ports scattered at key points around the rooms for ease of charging.

A large proportion of Swissôtel’s oversesas guests are business travelers so it makes sense that the ergonomic chair and writing was a pleasure to work from. They’ve also improved the fibre network infrastructure, so the complimentary WiFi was stable was accessible everywhere in the building, even at the two free-form pools that the property shares with sister hotel Fairmont Singapore.

The bathroom might not be particularly large but there’s enough space for a rectangular tub and a wide vanity for toiletries. An interesting addition to the regular vanity counter is the Swiss watch box-like that houses the signature bath amenities by Pürovel, the in-house spa brand that uses ingredients grown in a Swiss Alpine garden. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that the beauty light over the counter is one of the more flattering ones we’ve seen.

So, if you’re interested in a staycay that doesn’t take you away from the vibrancy of the city, Swissôtel the Stamford is definitely one legitimate option out there.

Swissôtel the Stamford is located at 2 Stamford Road, Singapore 178882, p. +65 6338 8585.
