I’ve never considered myself much of a girly girl, but there’s something about the boutique Soon Lee situated right at the end of Haji Lane, that makes me want to skip and twirl through a field of flowers, singing Disney tunes, wearing a pink, ruffled ra-ra skirt! If you’re a fan of girly chic then consider this your home from home but if you’re not, don’t discount it, it could melt even the most tomboy of hearts.
Carefully curated trinkets, chic fashion choices and stylish homewares nestle side by side in this beautifully put-together store. But what makes it that bit extra special for me, is that they also stock a small but intelligent selection of books. From fashion journals to literature classics, I appreciate the sentiment…we want you to look good whilst being smart and enlightened. Style with substance.
Soon Lee showcases designs from Hong Kong, Korea and the Philippines as well as local designers, plus a few little surprises from the UK, which is always a treat for this London lady. They carry Butter London, my absolute favourite nail polish. It was used at London Fashion week dontcha know?! (price: $25 a bottle)
Another British import is Irregular Choice. Imagine if you were Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and you’d just been given your pair of red sparkly shoes, except this is real life and you don’t have to wait for some freaky scarecrow or talking lion to provide you with sassy footwear. If you’re a fan of glitz and glamour and you haven’t heard of Irregular Choice, then chastise yourself vehemently and hotfoot it down to Soon Lee to pick up a pair immediately! Prices from $129-249.
Soon Lee is a big fan of Singapore-based brand All Things Green and Beautiful. Founded by designer Elaine Pang, this company has a big heart and a serious mission: to preserve the environment we live in and raise awareness that eco can be beautiful. She puts together unwanted materials and transforms them with smart design into something creative, stylish and unique. A percentage of all sales goes towards non-profit organisations as their way of giving back to society. So just to recap, totally environmentally friendly, socially conscientious and uber cute, what’s not to like?. Prices start from $19 for a brooch.
You’re spoilt for choice for whimsical fashion with brands like Chalk, Poem and Eerin Archives, mrktstore and Ila for bags and Icing, Dusk, Hadasity and Ashlyne for jewellery.
In truth there are so many desirable things, merchandised so beautifully in this store, it’s hard to pick out favourites, so instead let the pictures show what your next pay check will be spent on!
