Sungha Jung Live in Singapore with Special Guest Akihiro Tanaka

As part of his Monotony World Tour, Sungha Jung will return to Singapore for his fifth headlining show on 28 June 2014. World Fingerstyle Champion Akihiro Tanaka will join him for this tour leg. With two unbelievable guitarists in the lineup, this show is set to be the biggest guitar event of the year.

Both Sungha Jung and Akihiro Tanaka perform a type of guitar music known among enthusiasts as fingerstyle. In this virtuosic style of music, the guitarist uses the guitar like a piano, and proceeds to perform the melody, bass, accompaniment and percussion all on a single instrument.

Sungha Jung has been hailed by many guitar lovers and musicians as the finest teenage fingerstyle guitarist in the world. Combining spell-binding technique with artistic wizardry, his guitar renditions of contemporary, jazz and classical tunes have gone viral on YouTube, having been viewed over 400 million times around the globe.

2014 is a special year for Sungha. He will be releasing his fourth solo album; and is visiting Singapore for the fourth consecutive year. Fans at the show last year will remember being entranced by Sungha’s carefully chosen set list, which included masterfully arranged K Pop, Classic and Contemporary tunes. This year, fans can expect that and more, as Sungha looks to incorporate works by up and coming artists in his repertoire – come expecting music by Lorde, Passenger and Miley Cyrus in addition to Michael Jackson, Deep Purple and the Eagles.

Akihiro Tanaka is a preeminent fingerstyle guitarist coming from Kyoto, Japan. His guitar arrangements are a combination of smooth chord changes, catchy grooves and prominent bass lines. He first gained prominence in 2007 by winning Japan’s national fingerstyle competition, and then took the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Kansas, USA three years later.

Akihiro and Sungha are very close friends, and have previously performed together on numerous occasions. As a treat for the fans, the duo may perform an unprecedented number of duets, including My Favorite Things from the Sound of Music, Eric Clapton’s Change the World and Akihiro’s very own Etude of the sun. This is definitely something the fans do not want to miss.

Sungha Jung most recently performed in Singapore to a world record-breaking sold-out crowd at the Kallang Theatre. Get your tickets soon to avoid disappointment!
