All you, hip hoppers, pop lockers, B-boys and B-girls, freestylers and trigger happy aerosol artists, LISTEN UP! The Singapore Street Festival (SSF) 2014 kicks off this week with an even bigger and better line-up than ever before. Themed ‘Super Duper Youth’, this year’s festival line-up encompasses a series of electrifying dance programmes, movements, singing competitions, workshops and performances.
The SSF is a global platform that cultivates and nurtures the talents of youths in Singapore by providing outlets for diverse street culture through cross discipline and collaboration both locally and internationally. This year SSF celebrates its 13th year of street culture by kicking off with a Supa Hip Hop Show followed by a 3 day Supa Hip Hop Weekend that will definitely give you the dizzy spells. For the first time, Singapore is host to all the best breakdance performances in the world, including Freestyle Session and Battle of the Year. Be sure to catch all these because those hip hoppers will be throwin’ some serious tight jams!
Just like any dynamic festival that celebrates street culture, there is something for everyone. If you’re an avid football fan or just a freestyle enthusiast, this is a chance to get up close with world iconic freestyle footballer, Nam the Man, who will be showing off his moves.
They say the writing on the wall is usually a reflection of how you feel at that moment; we say if you have something to say, get creative and spray it and check out the SSF Street Graffiti Competition and Showcase.
You can also expect to be wowed by gravity-defying moves with Urban Live Free – A Parkour Generation, and some serious shaking hips with bad ass belly dance performances.
Singapore Street Festival is taking place on 13th June – 6th July. For a full list of activities and locations, check out the Singapore Street Festival website here.
