High Tea at The Ritz has a traditional ring to it, but the Ritz-Carlton Millenia is anything but traditional. From the striking Cornucopia sculpture in the lobby to the sweet treats in the High Tea buffet modern artistic twists permeate your experience from start to finish lending this bastion of the Singapore hotel scene a surprisingly youthful demeanour.
The High Tea buffet ($58++) delivers a wide selection of sweet and savoury items with a menu that changes with the season. Currently, they’re teasing us with a summer menu which is playful and fun with items influenced by the art found throughout the hotel, as well as drawing on traditional summer influences such as strawberries and cream.
Although the desserts are excellent, the Ritz’s High Tea is probably not the best value for money. However what it does deliver on is atmosphere, service and the amazing desserts.
If you wanted value, you probably could eat your $58 worth of sweet treats on offer here if so inclined. The dessert buffet is a visual and gastronomic delight – the yuzu pop is kitsch brilliance, shaped like a giant wrapped candy revealing a white chocolate ball filled with rich yuzu scented cream at its centre, while the off-menu treat during our visit was a raspberry coulis with cream served out of a glass tea pot for added drama and the scones are classic perfection: crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the inside slathered in devil-may-care swathes of jam and cream.
Although the savoury items were not quite as exciting, the excellent cucumber sandwiches and the baked chicken and crepe tartlet are delicious items to look out for.
If you have a sweet tooth this is a wonderful choice for a baby shower, afternoon out with the parents or girly catch-up and if you want to add some extra pizzazz to your afternoon you can order a mini-carafe (enough for 2 glasses) of the most stunning summer themed cocktails for just $10 – definitely the bargain of the day!
